Malaysians should not accept what the government says in the media as the gospel truth. Of late, we hear Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak say that the opposition is not capable of administering the country. This is not only misleading but a blatant lie.
The present government has shown that it is not capable of properly governing this nation. The last 22 years of Dr Mahathir Mohamad's tenure and the four years of Pak Lah's administration have seen the country degenerating towards being a failed state.
The litany of failures in the various government departments is shocking. The police are in dire straits with crime surging to unprecedented heights. The judiciary is not only tainted with dubious appointments but it has practically lost all the confidence of the people.
Religious conflicts arising from conversion of non-Muslims and the practice of 'body snatching' involving Muslim converts have stretched racial tolerance to unprecedented levels.
In addition, the government has wantonly wasted public funds ie, the crooked bridge fiasco and the ill-advised Broga incinerator project. The Port Klang Free Trade Zone blunder cost the government a few billion in taxpayers money which was siphoned off by Umno cronies.
The defence ministry headed by our Najib saw fit to purchase inferior quality Sukhoi fighter planes from Russia and Scorpene submarines from France. All these dubious purchases were done through proxies.
Is the above catalogue of failures what Najib calls the ‘success’ of the BN government? Surely an opposition government, given the opportunity, could not have fared worse than this.
A regime change can only offer a refreshing start to a new era of governance which can only be better. A new government has the benefit of learning from BN's mistake and with this hindsight the current opposition will make a better alternative government for the people.
