Land below wind not above Dr M's money politics

I refer to the Malaysiakini report Let's clean up BN and Umno: Dr M

Here again the ex-premier is trying to make his mark. Is it really, truly and sincerely due to his love and care for the people and the country or is it his mountain of an ego?

As if inews about the money politics in Malaysia is new. In Sabah, in particular, money has been the reason why anyone is in power ever since Tun Mustafa to the present.

Let me give some example of the type of ‘incentives’ that the people received in exchange for their votes. The common example are zincs for roofing and the popular blue water storage tanks, and even sewing machines to entice the women of the house to cast their votes for a particular party.

How could anyone not notice all these ‘incentives’ when one could be literarily blinded by the glare of the aluminum metals and the bright blue containers that have turned into landmarks for a particular party?

Then how about all those small half-done projects like bridges, lanes etc, which were promised to have been completed after an election? Of course, for the obedient and the lucky ones, these election promises were fulfilled but then there were also the ‘traitors’ (opposition supporters) who were left with their half finished projects as a means of punishment.

Mahathir himself said that those communities who do not vote for BN would be refused federal funding. That is an example of money politics. The federal funds are for the people - not for the benefit of any particular party.

And come election time, there’ll be whispers of, ‘Hey, how much did you get?’ My dear countrymen, we are talking about the colour of money here and red (RM10) is no longer favorable but is , ta-dah! the-color-purple! These is money politics with RM50 to RM200 per individual voter.

And how much do you think is the favorable number or colour for the big fishes? The ultimate example was the downfall of PBS (Parti Bersatu Sabah, which was once in the opposition) which won the state election one day but the next day joined BN.

Are there proofs for all these allegations of money politics? Yes, they are - in abundance! Just go around and ask the people (especially around the villages).

Can we charge them in a court? The answer is ‘no’ because it is a case of ‘you scratch my back, I scratch your back’. Sad to say, the kampung people value the colour of quick money better than real long-term development for all citizens.

Mahathir (and all those politicians in denial), please face the fact that money politics is very much alive and was rampant during your tenure. This is Malaysia Boleh, and Malaysia Boleh was moulded during the rule of Dr Mahathir.

Isn't it time for a general election? Look, look, there is this huge, huge amount of money ... going to be slipped into pockets.
