It was a warm Thursday evening in Brickfields and I, my wife and kids we looking forward to lending support to the opposition candidates. We had heard that Nurul Izzah, Anwar Ibrahim, Gobind Singh Deo and my favorite Internet personality, Raja Petra Kamaruddin (RPK), were to speak at a ceramah in Brickfields at 8 pm.

Anticipating a traffic jam and a huge crowd, we arrived early at the padang 7pm. The tents and PA system were just being put up and we soon heard that is another ceramah was going on at the Palm Court condo. We walked over there and witnessed a huge crowd watching a video on screen about the infamous BN ‘Bocor’ MP and the ruckus he caused in Parliament. It is so sad that we have so shallow BN MPs.

I felt embarrassed with my teenaged son and daughter present. How cheap the BN politicians behave, more so in Parliament. I was floundering to answer his behavior to my kids.

In disgust, we walked back again to the padang and by now there place was half-full. Soon the ‘warm up’video on the big screen was the Hindraf issue followed by TV recordings of interviews with S Samy Vellu on the Indian dilemma.

Each and every time the face of Samy Velu appeared on screen, the whole crowd erupted with calls to quit, ‘enough is enough’, ‘thief’, pambu (snake) modalai, (crocodile), ‘traitor’. It was a good start. Soon the entire was full to hear the multitude of speakers with the event ending only 12 .20 am!

The people were packed shoulder to shoulder, neck to neck, standing all through the five hours of the ceramah . There was an even distribution of all the three main races. Anwar, Nurul, Raja Petra, Gobind and a few other speakers all gave and electrifying speeches.

While the political speeches were the best we ever heard, RPK stole the evening while I believe Nurul Izzah won every voter’s heart. We left contented that great times are ahead for all Malaysians.
