BN's ACA hasn't indicted anyone from opposition

I have been reading the many letters asking voters to deny BN their two-thirds majority. Some have asked to look at the track record of those competing before making a choice. Since there is still some time left, let me add a few words to the fray. Let’s think big and let’s completely bury BN this election. Why? Read on to find out more.

1. Do not vote any BN candidate, even if they are clean of corruption. Its has been shown time and again that BN representatives cannot break ranks from their party stand even if they believe that they are doing the right thing. Look what happened in recent history to the two MCA MPs and one MIC MP, S.Sothinathan. BN MPs will just toe the party line and will not do the right thing such as voicing out for their constituents in parliament or supporting action against fellow corrupt party members.

When the opposition wanted to debate about the million-ringgit commission paid to Abdul Razak Baginda in the submarine deal, BN MPs did not support the motion. This shows that even if BN MPs aren’t involved in corruption, they are just as guilty for not speaking up against corruption.

2. Clean BN MPs are also guilty of not protecting the rights of the people in not supporting motions to dismantle the ISA, a barbaric, inhumane law that is being used at this very moment to detain five men who did nothing wrong but only wanted to voice out their displeasure over an oppressed community. If you vote BN, that means you agree with their use of the ISA, and you are equally guilty of separating these five men from their families and depriving them of their livelihood, as well as endorsing the police to carry out mental torture on these men.

Can we, the people, sleep well at night without thinking of their plight? Let’s free these men and spare many more people in the future from the ISA as well as do some justice for others that have been detained under the ISA in the past.

3. The corrupt bigwigs in BN time and again ask the people to report corruption, but it has been shown that even if you have proof, the whistleblowers can go to jail while the perpetrator goes scot-free especially if he is somebody powerful in BN. One courageous individual did just that many years ago, Ezam Mohd Noor. He exposed official documents recommending action against Rafidah Aziz.

Poor Ezam got jailed instead. What did he get for doing such a great public service? Two years in jail my fellow Malaysians. He was doing the right thing, but we rewarded him by voting for the corrupt regime BN again in 2004. His sacrifice was for nothing. What’s wrong with us Malaysians? Why aren’t we outraged by such a monumental injustice? Why are we not outraged that our money is being spent to enrich cronies of BN? I am angry, my fellow Malaysians. Very angry.

4. Opposition candidates are not corrupt. Let’s face it, we all know the ACA is an arm of the BN. Surely by now, it could have found many opposition MPs guilty of corruption. But until now, it hasn’t managed to indict anyone from the opposition. But when it comes to BN candidates, it’s always ‘They are clean’ even though the evidence speaks otherwise and is clear for all to see.

Make it a point to vote opposition in this coming elections, no matter if it’s for parliament or otherwise. We must give BN a clear message that we will not tolerate their lies, their washing their hands of their responsibilities with regards to protecting the rights of the people. It’s not just about drains and roads like the BN would like us to think. It’s bigger than that. It's the direction this country heading and the ideals of justice and fair play.

So if any BN candidate comes around your area shaking hands and asking you to vote BN, ask them these questions instead.

  • will you support a motion to abolish the ISA?

  • will you support open tenders for government development projects?
  • will you support motions to debate corruption by MPs even if they are from the BN?
    • Will you support a proper royal commission (not the recent farce) to look into the judicial scandal and reinstate the IPCMC?

If they answer ‘no’ to any of these questions, please tell them to go to hell.
