I refer to Malaysiakini report Umno may lose up to 10 seats. Umno, the bedrock of BN, will suffer a major ‘seatback’ if the party loses more seats in the coming polls. With the sentiment of the public against them and wavering Malay support, one can see now that there are a lot of Umno seats which can go either way come March 8.
Pak Lah might be out of a job if BN loses big in the coming polls with Umno candidates in hot seats losing to their main rivals PAS or to the new kids on the block, PKR. Even the senior partners of BN, MCA and MIC have lost ground and DAP will capitalise on this to win more seats as compared to the last polls.
Will history repeat itself? With a myriad of issues affecting the present regime credibility’s, one can see there is a glimmer of hope that like the 1969 polls , the present regime might lose its two- thirds majority. In other robust democratic countries, the government of the day will be replaced if the people have lose faith in their leaders. But Malaysians are not known to change governments because the opposition is weak and disunited.
The winds of change are blowing and a frustrated public - which is fed up with the present regime’s inability to tackle inflation and graft - may give BN a thrashing in the coming polls. But we must remember that the present regime has the government machinery and an endless supply of money to buy votes.
A government which is denied a two-thirds majority cannot bulldoze bills which do not benefit the public through parliament and if we have an independent judiciary , this will go a long way towards making our nation a better country for all.
Pak Lah has lost the respect of the common people when he failed to deliver on good governance when he took over in 2004. He could have won the hearts and minds of the public by going all out to nab the big crooks who swindled government funds but under his watch, corruption and abuse of power instead became worse.
I beseech the voters to please make the right choice come March 8 for if we still give a strong mandate to the present government, it will mean another five years of abuse of power and corruption which will result in Malaysia joining the ranks of failed states.
