Crime doesn't happen at peaceful demos, IGP
Mr Rozario | Jun 16, 08 4:28pm
Dear Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Musa Hassan,

It was only a few months ago that thieves broke into my house whilst me and my wife were away at work and ransacked my house carting away jewelry and valuables from my home.

This was done in broad daylight. I guess it does not matter to you that such things happen as  for you and your men, these are ordinary crimes.

That is the impression we get when we visit the police stations and make our reports. The investigating officer takes our statements, after which nothing else really happens.

On Monday, my immediate neighbour suffered the same fate.

I am writing to you today because I am shocked to note that your  city police chief warned the public against taking part in Friday’s protest, saying that he would deploy up to 2,000 security forces to crack down on the planned street demonstration.

You seem to have got your priorities and duties all mangled up. You do not know who you are to protect. The constitution of this land allows for freedom of assembly, speech and expression and you were forcefully attempting to break up what is lawful.

Doing that is unlawful and because you engage in using force against unarmed citizens,  it is criminal. I am sure you know that, but to the police force today this has become irrelevant.

No one can give you the power to usurp the constitution the way you did. Anyone who directs  you to act in such manner is himself committing a crime. I do not have to tell you this, you have studied the law, I haven't

What is shocking is you that you have the personnel to deploy to intimidate citizens who are merely exercising their rights. But when it comes to fighting crime, robbery, thefts, murders, kidnaps, rape etc. you do not seem to have the adequate numbers to protect the innocent people.

I suggest you allow these peaceful demonstrations to go ahead and you use your resources to fight crime and keep the peace instead of using your police force for intimidation.
