My letter is just a proposal to the government on how to counter the fuel price increase instead of increasing the fuel prices and burdening the citizens. Why doesn’t the government explore ways of earning more revenue to overcome the problem?
They have all the think-tank professionals and advisers to resolve this problem. Actually, it is a very simple problem to overcome.
Just take a look at Macao. They don't have any natural resources or manufactured products to export. Right. All their revenue is derived from taxing the casinos and from tourism.
I understand that Malaysia is a Muslim country, but can you explain what is the difference between having one casino and 10 casinos? Just imagine the extra taxes the government will receive from the additional casino operators they approve and the resulting massive tourist influx from all over the world.
If they do not want their own citizens to gamble in these casinos, then impose a high levey on all Malaysians who want to enter these casinos. It is still money for the government’s coffers. Right.
Secondly, I would like to propose the legalising of soccer betting as this will be another huge source of revenue for the government as opposed to the illegal bookies raking in millions of dollars day in and day out.
Without illegal bookies or at least a drastic reduction in their number, the police can then dedicate more time towards solving more real crime. This in turn will also mean less corruption all around.
If they approve permits for more casinos, imagine the investment from foreigners starting with the land purchased to build their casinos. There will be other spillover effects too for the local economy.
To sumarise, the government should debate this proposal in parliament to to see if it is well- received or not. If this proposal can reduce the fuel price to 50 cents a litre, then I think every sane person will agree to it.
Just look at Singapore, they can finally see what is going to happen to their country if they don't do something to safeguard their economy.
They foresee that they cannot depend on manufacturing alone and now they have the courage to change.
So if Malaysia wants to move forward and show its boleh attitude, then let us face the fact that we need to change our mindset to survive in this world without depending on handouts from people.
