Highly prejudicial not to give Anwar copy of report

Day by day, the evidence is mounting that the sodomy allegation is yet another devious political conspiracy against Anwar Ibrahim.

The fact that his accuser is not investigated for suspected consensual sodomy and his interaction with those in power should already ring alarm bells. But there’s more to convince the doubtful.

As a police report is a public document, it is highly prejudicial not to give Anwar a copy of the report made against him before obtaining his statement as dates and times may be subsequently changed to suit the available facts.

As the police are unable to explain why they will not give Anwar a copy of the report, a negative inference may be drawn.

There is also the police’s strange insistence for a blood sample from Anwar purportedly to obtain his DNA.

This is unnecessary as the police already have a record of his DNA from the 1998 case. One wonders whether the blood sample will be used for sinister purposes such as planting evidence against him.

It is tragedy that the authorities have seen it fit to organise a despicable conspiracy of the vilest type against an opposition leader just to put him out of the way.

The country and all its institutions will be dragged through mud once again in an effort to convict an innocent man on fabricated evidence.

To the police and their political masters, please desist immediately before further damage is done to our democratic institutions and public confidence irreparably shattered.

The public are not fools to be convinced by circumstantial evidence of dubious origin. The truth will come out no matter what effort is made to distort and suppress it.

Frankly, the bumbling police force are not up to the job. They have already overplayed their hand even in this initial stage and suspicion of a conspiracy is beginning to be confirmed.

If the powers-that-be insist on dragging the case to court and bulldozing through a conviction in a kangaroo court, please be aware that you are tampering with public opinion on a scale that few democratic governments which have to face elections have ever dared to do.

Your effort to remove Anwar Ibrahim from the political scene to safeguard your political power may be the spark that ignite the flames that incinerate your hold on power.
