I refer to the Malaysiakini article Dangerous stretches: Why is Plus reticent?
I wish to assure the writer that PLUS is never reticent on issues of safety. We do not compromise with our contractors or suppliers on matters that can adversely affect our customers’ safety and well-being and have in place strict guidelines and procedures to ensure safety is observed at all times.
As such, resurfacing work on completed stretches of the highway will be done if they are deemed necessary. As the writer is himself an engineer, he will appreciate that rectification work within the defect liability period is nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, feedback from concerned customers also enables us to further monitor the situation on the ground and take action where applicable.
As for the materials used for the stretches concerned, we would like to emphasise that the selection was made based on riding performance, adherence to international standards and specifications for highway surface and proven track record.
In this instance, the material used is commonly found in highways internationally. Furthermore, a skid resistance test carried out in July achieved an overall score that surpassed the minimum standard required.
In spite of this, we will continue to monitor and improve the conditions and riding performance of our highway for the convenience of our users.
We should also like to take this opportunity to remind all motorists to follow the imposed speed limit especially on stretches where remedial works are being carried out, and to slow down when driving in the rain.
PLUS thanks all drivers for their cooperation in practicing safe driving habits on the expressways at all times.
