I refer to the Malaysiakini report Dr M to Umno: Back Abdullah at your peril.
There is a chap called Mahathir who ran Malaysia for (was it 22 years?) who could have made Malaysia a country to be proud of for all Malaysians. What did he do instead?
He ran Malaysia as if it belonged to him personally and retained power as long as he could.
He went on ego trips and blew money on white elephant projects.
He gave licences to construct tolled roads left right and centre with no coordination in between.
Wonder what he did with all the money the country made from road tax and the oil revenue.
He negated the last safeguard of democracy by making laws automatically passed even if the king refuses to agree to the changes.
His almighty guiding hand enforced racially divisive policies and regulations to bring about Ketuanan Melayu -type policies.
He tore down the judiciary and tried his best to make it answerable to him.
He brought in draconian rules and powers and made as many as 80 changes to the constitution of Malaysia. Most of the other developed and advanced countries would have less than 10, if any.
He inflicted political control over the police and made then answerable to the politicians instead of the rakyat.
And he did many other things that you could fill a book with.
Now that he has 'retired' he keeps sniping at the current prime minister whom he keeps blaming for all the ills of Malaysia.
Has he not have realised that Malaysians have had enough of nepotism, corruption, a rotting judiciary, an inefficient public service and having to pay bribes to get anything done?
The last, incidently, is not only illegal by law but also against the religious laws of most people and definitely against those the past PM professes to follow.
But who are we to question all this...it is all Abdullah's fault. Bah, humbug!
Now that we have a semblance of a viable opposition who can form a federal government sooner or later, let us all give them a go.
