I refer to the Malaysiakini report New Era College rocked by resignations .

Managing change needs courage and foresight. Organisational culture is crucial to successful change strategy implementation. Has the college inculcated the right culture?

Any change must be in harmony with the environment and in line with the trend of development in education. Are we doing checks and balances on this? Good foresight requires solid wisdom.

What is the wisdom behind the current change at the New Era College? What is the rationale in replacing the principal?

Are we looking for form or art in managing the growth and development of the college? Are organisational processes transparent? Has good corporate governance been instituted in the college?

Structure is very powerful in the implementation process. Has an effective organisational structure been established? Of course, we all must anticipate and adapt to change.

However, integrity is paramount in guiding change in an organisation. Integrity is the mandatory requirement for all leadership. We must be sincere and honest about the cause we are pursuing.

In the process, we need strategic leadership in the change strategy implementation at all levels of an organisation. Leadership permeates all levels of the organisation. A CEO cannot achieve it alone.

The CEO needs people to implement strategies. We just cannot move forward without the right people. And the right people are not born overnight. They are being developed over time. They are constantly subject to tests in different situations from time to time.

The current leadership crisis of the New Era college is a case in point. Can the college withstand the knocks it is sustaining within the current environment?

In order to move forward, leaders must have a thorough understanding of the purpose of the college. Why does the New Era College exist? We can transform the college but we must not lose sight of the purpose of this college.

The CEO is a change catalyst, he initiates the change. Therefore, it is important that he does not lose sight of the purpose of the college. He must know this. In order to implement change, vision and mission must be communicated to all levels of an organisation.

Have these been communicated effectively? A good and responsible CEO must be able to explain both the good and bad news. Have all the mechanisms of communication been established? Is the college ready for change?

Have we identified strategic action to start the change process? What is the payoff? What are the consequences? What is the current business modus operandi ? How about emerging business models for many years to come?
