Your report 'No quorum for lawyers' EGM to censure Bar Council leaders' (Sept 28) has me quoted as saying that "Sivarasa told reporters after the closed-door meeting that he had argued that the Bar Council, which forms the leadership of the Malaysian Bar, should not oppose the resolutions passed by members."
It implies that I had spoken at the meeting in that vein. I need to clarify that I did not at any point address the meeting. I informed reporters subsequently in response to questions that this was one of the arguments presented by lawyers there. It is a small but important error as members at the meeting would know that I did not speak and would be wondering why I had told the press otherwise.
The opinion which I then expressed to the press in the following terms "The resolution the Bar had passed in the 1978 AGM is binding. I hope the Bar Council will respond and assume a position in line with the resolution passed that year. The implications of the Bar Council acting in contradiction to the resolution are serious" is accurately reported.
