DJZ shouldn't hold Chinese community to ransom

I refer to the Malaysiakini report Switch or we strike, warns education group .

I am writing to say that as a Chinese Malaysian, I disagree with DJZ threatening the government with a massive protest if the policy stays to teach Science and mathematics in English.

The reason they gave is that the majority of the Chinese prefer that these two important subjects be taught in the mother tongue.

Well, I am a Chinese, am proud of it and my mother tongue is Chinese, but that does not mean that I support the teaching of these two subjects in Chinese or any other language other than English. As far as I know, the majority of people I talk to believe that English is the right way to go and firmly advocate the continued teaching these two subjects in English.

We know better that the world does not wait for anyone and any advancement in knowledge is widely communicated in English. Most important text books are written in English and even the Internet - which contains a huge resource pool of knowledge- is conducted in English.

So, I do not see why our children should be disadvantaged further to be educated in Chinese or Bahasa Malaysia or any other language other than English for these important subjects.

If the Chinese language is so important, then continue to teach the Chinese language, moral education and other subjects in Chinese but please do not disadvantage our children further because of your skewed pride and political reasons.

Now, going back to the DJZ protest, I completely disagree with this and as far as I am concerned, please do not claim that you have the support of the majority of the Chinese until there has been an independent survey on this to prove your claim.

Don't hold our children hostage to your skewed beliefs. I respect that you have the right to your beliefs but do not force me and my children to accept your beliefs by threatening us by with a massive protest.

In fact, if the schools are forced to close because of these protests, then you have become a threat to a peaceful society and as such I hope you get sued.

The same goes to all other ultra ethnic groups who are fighting to revert the teaching of these two subjects back to their respective mother tongues.

You can voice your dissatisfaction but don't go overboard and force your opinion on others. It's better to debate it and do an independent survey to understand the wish of most people. Stop being a political terrorist.
