Many reasons why one would enter a bedroom

I refer to the Malaysiakini report The political rape of Elizabeth Wong .

I read with interest former Selangor menteri besar Mohd Khir Toyo's suggestion that Elizabeth Wong should quit for 'immorality'.

Ignoring for a minute the hypocrisy of this suggestion, I have to ask, what ‘immorality’? I haven't seen the photos. But all reports I've seen suggest that she was in her bedroom possibly sleeping.

There is no suggestion she is having sex or posing for the photos. According to Khir, it's immoral for her to give her boyfriend access to her room. I ask, why?

In Islam, close contact or khalwat is generally considered forbidden. I accept that, as do most other Malaysians. But Wong is not a Muslim.

Most religions have no specific restrictions on 'close contact'. Having sex with someone you're not married to is often considered immoral but we've seen no evidence Wong did that.

Many people are able to give other people access to their bedrooms without having sex or engaging in other activities people may find immoral. There are plenty of reasons why you might want to let someone into your bedroom.

For example, if your computer is there. Or your TV. Or if you live with other people, you may simply want to talk in a more private environment.

Perhaps for Khir Toyo, the only reason he invites someone else into his bedroom is for you-know-what. But most people are not Khir Toyo.

Most other Malaysians, including most Muslims, I'm quite sure have no problem with a person letting someone into their bedroom for any one of the reasons I've mentioned above.

Personally, I don't even care if Wong did have sex. It's none of my business. If she isn't married or in a committed relationship with someone else and the other person isn't either, why should I care? However, I do accept that some people may not agree with me.

Regardless though, it's clear to me that the only reason Khir Toyo sees any immorality in this case is because of his closed and dirty mind, unable to see that there's absolutely nothing wrong with allowing someone in to your bedroom.

For that matter, how do we even known Wong gave someone access to her bedroom? Perhaps she simply gave her house keys to someone she trusted, a friend, a boyfriend, whatever, someone she thought wouldn't invade her privacy.

Unless Khir Toyo took the photos himself (or knows who did, in which case I hope he has made a police report) I'm sure he can't know either.
