Sodomy II: 'Judges must discharge their duties fairly'

vox populi big thumbnail 'When the rights are conferred on the judges to preside over cases, they are expected to defend the law by discharging their duties fairly, without fear or favour. It is their duties to interpret the law so that the accused gets a fair treatment.'

Appeals court refuses to strike out sodomy charge

Mandy Lee: They want Anwar Ibrahim to be prosecuted as soon as possible, because the longer Anwar drags the case into international attention, the pressure there will be on the Malaysian government. There is no justice in this country. Would you go to court if in that forum you know you won't get fair judgment?

Cala: When the rights are conferred on the judges to preside over cases, they are expected to defend the law by discharging their duties fairly, without fear or favour. It is their duties to interpret the law so that the accused gets a fair treatment. This is the essence of doctrine of democracy.

The rights of an individual must be respected and must be seen to be respected. Otherwise the law is no longer the law as we know it.

Ghkok: Every injustice towards Anwar is also an injustice towards all those of us who voted for Pakatan Rakyat. Every day we feel we've been hit. But every day we wake up, we feel stronger. We feel more defiant. We want Anwar to win but we know they won't allow him to.

We know what we have to do. We have convinced even more people to vote Pakatan. We have talked to relatives, friends, friends of relatives, relatives of friends. More and more people are climbing into the Pakatan bus. We're on the way to Putrajaya.

Kris: Umno sees Anwar as the biggest threat to its hold on power and has decided to remove him by finding him guilty on what almost certainly seem to be trumped-up sodomy charges. No amount of expert evidence proving Anwar's innocence will prevent these Augustine (Paul) type judges from finding Anwar guilty and send him to prison.

The only benefit that would be obtained from this trial is that it would highlight to all Malaysians how rotten the enforcement agencies and the judiciary have become. Hopefully, outraged and disgusted Malaysians will vote for change during the next elections and put an end to these injustices and the plunder of the country by the Umnoputras and their cronies.

The country would then be able to halt the continuing decline in all areas and catch with up with the countries that were once at par or behind us, such as Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore. If things continue as they are, we could eventually end up like the resource-rich Burma or Zimbabwe.

Anwar's mea culpa

Giri: I can understand what pressures Anwar had during the general election of March 2008. For Christ's sake, even electing committee members to my school club was so difficult, imagine hundreds of areas to nominate trustworthy people!

That's an almost impossible task, but with the peanuts he had, he did a good job. This man has gone through crap and grit and is still fighting through it for our future. He is the Gandhi of Malaysia. Can you put yourself in his shoes?

Simple Malaysian: Pakatan should vet through the existing as well as potential MPs and state assembly members, and eliminate them.

Abil: Anwar has a clear direction for future Malaysians. We should strive for a two-party system, where the balance of power is with the people to decide who should lead them.

RM40 mil tender: Lim ready to be sued by Zahrain

Wira: Umno and BN will never be able to match Pakatan in being clean. That's why they need to raise racial issues and to confuse the rural Malays in order to derail a surging Pakatan.

A clean Umno will implode because the corrupt will pull any reformist down. That's why Umno must be relegated to opposition for at least two terms before they are handed back power again if this country is to be saved from institutionalised corruption and decay.

A Pakatan representative must be squeaky clean. Or else he should leave quietly or be sacked.

SameSame: Those PKR and DAP bad apples should be squashed and thrown out. If they think that the rakyat will stand and accept another BN/Umno-style nonsense... think again. We are no longer suckers. Lim Guan Eng, good job. Don't let these people intimidate you and the party.

Tough choice for Zambry

Louis: Give the posts to the three frogs (Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi of Behrang, Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu of Changat Jering and Hee Yit Foong of Jelapang), and troubles will come from Umno as well as outside. It will be so obvious that those three are out to for personal gains.

But give the posts to Umno, and the three frogs might decide to declare themselves non-BN friendly, and thereby causing another round of crisis.

It is best that the Perak legislative assembly be dissolved and start all over again.

Doc: It looks like Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir is stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea.

If it's any consolation, it's better to choose the Umno goons to fill the seats than the three frogs. After all, if the frogs are not happy with their Umno masters, what can they possibly do - rejoin Pakatan? Fat chance of that happening.

Secondly, the frogs' political life span is limited - at the best, until the next election. So it's best to keep your kind happy or else Zambry may end up with a knife in his back.
