your say 'An acquittal does not mean the accused person is clear of corruption. Involvement in corruption and winning a case are two different matters.'

Former CCID chief Ramli acquitted

Victor Soon: Well, congratulations to the lawyers who had managed to convince the trial judge that the prosecution had failed to prove a ‘prima facie' case against Ramli Yusuff on all three charges preferred against him.

It must be remembered that the decision of Sessions Court is not final as the prosecution may appeal to the higher courts till the Federal Court. An acquittal does not mean the accused person is clear of corruption.

Involvement in corruption and winning a case are two different matters. We should ask how one who holds a post in the civil service could accumulate such a huge sum of money and properties. Civil servants cannot be involved in businesses.

However, back to this case, I think let the prosecution appeal and Ramli defend himself. The public should only judge his innocence at the end of all avenue of appeals. The public should not blame the MACC for this judgment and accuse the MACC of being a lapdog for the attorney-general and inspector-general of police.

Let's pray for God to forgive the victim and victimised, if any. Punish the corrupt.

Satinah Osman: Harsh language used by former judge NH Chan in his many articles on our judges and published in the non-dailies are a reflection of the integrity and status of our judiciary.

However in this particular case, the judge has stood up to the scheming of the AG and IGP and the evil forces of the underworld. What we seem to find very odd these days is that it is the non- Umno judges who seem to be defending justice.

The other remaining judges may find out what justice is in the hereafter. Meantime, let us blow the trumpets of joy for what has happened in courts today. Let us now await what transpires in lawyer Rosli Dahlan's case.

Sarawakian: Do we ask ourselves why there are so many evil people running the government machinery? Those who are supposed to protect us are in cahoots with those who are a threat to our lives.

Should the IGP and the AG resign in shame over this affair? I hope Ramli Yusuff can pursue options to bring those who conspired to bring him down so that justice is done. The rakyat are with you, sir.

Habib RAK: I too support the view that the IGP and AG must resign in view of the acquittal of Ramli Yusuff. It is clear as daylight that some top government officers are in cahoots with the underworld kingpins.

Both IGP and AG tried to silence Ramli but they failed. The MACC should stop being a lapdog to the IGP and AG. Abu Kassim, the new MACC chief should correct this immediately. Kudos to judge M Gunalan.

Pemerhati: The background to this case reveals how IGP Musa Hassan and AG Abdul Gani Patail and MACC conspired to try and cover up Musa's links with the underworld. Gunalan's courageous decision in defiance of the most powerful people in the country puts him in the same category as the other brave and upright judges.

In a normal, civilised and democratic country, people indulging in crooked activities usually end up in prison but in Malaysia, they get promoted and have their contracts renewed.

Disgusted: Another one gets away. What a waste of time going through all the process and wasting the rakyat's money and in the end, no one gets sentenced.

It is declared that the MACC failed to prove a ‘prima facie' case. Haven't we heard this so many times before? Is this is the standard of our cops, MACC and the Attorney-General's Chambers?

All the ‘big fish' get away to enjoy their ill-gotten gains and the small fish get fried. But then again, perhaps he has gotten away as others were afraid that he may spill the beans on them.

Sentinel: Justice has prevailed. Ramli was a good cop and was a victim of being framed by his colleagues for doing his job. Kudos to the judge. Now, IGP Musa Hassan, please explain yourself and your irresponsible actions. As usual, the prime minister will remain silent because he is not in control.

Kgen: What is it with the MACC? They go after good men who do their jobs professionally but ignore tainted men. Another good man victimised by the MACC is the Tourism director-general Mirza Mohammad Taiyab. Is MACC to fight corruption or is it mowing down those who stand in the way of Umno's plunder?

For those who think this acquittal is unjust, please read up on the background of Mirza's case in ‘Malaysia Today'. Ramli is a good cop. In this case, justice has prevailed.

Cala: By looking at the timeline of the police with respect to Goh Cheng Poh @ Tengku, one can not help but to conclude that the police chief Musa may have a lot of skeletons in his closet too. My question is who is there to check on the law enforcer? This is in fact a perennial problem of institutional design.

Tan Kian Khim: RPK's (Raja Petra Kamarudin) information and revelations are alarmingly accurate as always. The documents and allegations of how the PDRM are entangled with the mafia have been circulating for more than two years, but instead MACC chooses to conduct serious and detailed investigations into a cake given to Kelantan MB Nik Aziz Nik Mat, while AG Abdul Gani Patail is intensely watching the paint dry on his wall instead of dealing with the 800-pound gorilla defecating wantonly in his room.

Tanchewee: The court decision should be respected, but how Ramli's wealth was obtained is still a question.

CK Chang: This is only Round 1. Believe me, they will come and taunt him with Round 2. When are they going to appeal to the higher courts? Don't waste time, just do it.
