Teoh a victim of broken political system

vox populi small thumbnail 'Teoh Beng Hock, Altantuya Shaariibuu, and the detainees who died in government custody are victims of a broken political system. Justice can never be served under this corrupted system of ours.'

One-minute silence for Teoh on July 16

Christ Follower: Whoever the culprit will have to answer directly or indirectly to the Creator. I mean he cannot run away from karma. The curse will befall upon his/hers immediate family at the prime time of their enjoyment, which they may or may not realise. God has his own time to mete out punishment. Let's pray for TBH (Teoh Beng Hock) family.

No Lawyer: There were many heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation not being rewarded with a minute's silence but M Manoharan is requesting all Malaysians to do so for TBH. What has TBH done to be awarded such a heroic silence?

Malaysian should think of the sacrifices which the army personnel have made to save Malaysia from its enemies. They are the persons to be accorded heroic prayers. They were our heroes, not TBH, who was just an aide to a state councillor. Don't jump the gun but wait till the inquest is completed.

Joe: If Teoh Beng Hock was not working for the DAP, he would still be alive today. He was a victim of Umno's foul play to bring down the government of Selangor using MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) to do its bidding. TBH's case is a political case. Period.

Joe : Teoh Beng Hock, Altantuya Shaariibuu, and the detainees who died in government custody are victims of a broken political system. Justice can never be served under this corrupted system of ours. May we learn a lesson never to allow a government to overstay. A government that overstays, like a ripe fruit, rots.

We did not to give our rulers absolute powers. It would be like giving away a blank cheque for them to pass repressive laws to take away our rights and freedom. We need a dual-party system to keep the government of the day honest. We have to have separation of powers to maintain the integrity and independence of our state institutions.

We're not to trust politicians, but to depend on a system of checks and balances to prevent tyranny. It's a costly lesson for us to learn from living 52 years under BN's unfettered rule. It'll be well worth it if we can make amends in the next general election. The deaths of Teoh Beng Hock and the others would not have been in vain.

Ferd Tan: TBH will not rest in peace until he gets his justice or we will not let MACC rest in peace ever.

Harakah perplexed over 'show-cause letter' report

Joe: Umno is unable to answer the allegations raised against the party. So it finds excuses to intimidate the opposition for exposing its excesses. It uses the Home Ministry to threaten Harakah after banning the ‘1Funny Malaysia' comic book and suspending Suara Keadilan .

But Suara Perkasa on the other hand, is allowed off the hook for racial incitement. The ‘wunderbar' in the Home Ministry has switched from waving his ‘keris' to waving the law at the faces of the opposition.

Teh: Lately PM Najib Razak and his BN government have been falling over themselves to plug holes where information about government failings and questionable deals and actions are being exposed by various media. Questions posted in Parliament were given evasive and ambiguous answers. Najib himself has become the standard bearer for flip-flop responses and half truths.

At the same time, they have allowed misinformation to be disseminated by the likes of Perkasa and Utusan Malaysia . The impression given to the reading public is that there is a lot that Najib wants to hide and a lot that he wants to cover up.

Unfortunately, you cannot wall up information. Not in this Internet age. Eventually, the truth will come out. And it may be sooner than we expect.

SUPP at the crossroads

Sarawakian: It's too late for SUPP to turn around. Their current posture is just a self-preservation act by their old leaders who just refuse to go away even when they are not wanted. They were all sucking it up to Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud as long as the crumbs kept falling from Taib's table for them to pick up.

Now that there is a sign that Taib's days are numbered, they are scared of being ejected from the gravy train. With the recent reports highlighting Taib's vast fortune, these old men realised that they have been given only the crumbs, while Taib has got all the juicy meat. Hence the dejection and anger.

My advice to the young leaders is to leave a sinking ship and join the opposition if they really care about serving the rakyat. Let old leaders like George Chan, Peter Chin, Sim Kheng Hui and David Teng die with the party. No one will miss them.

Tony: Irrespective of whatever happens, SUPP is not likely to abandon BN - either to join PKR or to stand on its own. It will be more disastrous if it leaves. There is no place for its leaders in PKR so the only option is a lingering death in BN. With its representation dwindling, would PRS Dr James Masing become the next DCM of Sarawak after the next election?

Debate on Rosmah rejected, MP resubmits motion

Geronimo : Bakri MP Er Teck Wah is just one of the many who is helping to tighten the noose around the couple's necks. They are now cornered left, right and centre. You have P Balasubramaniam and RPK (Raja Petra Kamarudin) in London as well as the French investigators closing in. Now you have Er Teck Wah as well.

It will just be a matter of time before someone starts to choke and no judges, parliamentary speakers, MACC, police or army in the world is going to be of any help.

The Plenn: The light must be kept lit at all costs. Just look at nature - water is soft, yet over time it will erode away the hardest of metal. I believe that Altantuya Shaariibuu will triumph in the end.

DOC: As the saying goes, "It ain't over till the fat lady sings".
