'Take bumi discounts from the rich, give it to the poor'

vox populi small thumbnail 'Sorry Perkasa, where in the constitution that says that developers must give 5 percent discount for bumiputera purchasers of houses or properties?'

Bumi discounts: Cops grill Tony Pua, to call MB Khalid

Sabawak: How can the questioning of bumiputera discount for the purchase of luxury-class property be investigated for sedition?

Should the police not be looking at it as a case of corruption as the bumi discount is supposed to help the underprivileged? Is the NEP (New Economic Policy) not there to help the poor, so why is it Chinese and Indian poor are not given the same discount as the bumiputera?

Pemerhati: Azmi Sharom recently wrote in the Star , "Affirmative action is not a Malay right. Article 153 does not endow a right. What it does is to merely give government the power to take affirmative action despite the overarching ideal of equality...

"Article 8 clearly states that all citizens in this country are equal except for situations specifically provided for in the constitution. Those ‘specific provisions' are found in Article 153 and there are not many of them. They include the power to establish quotas for the civil service, permits and licences, scholarships and education. Therefore anything other than these areas should not be subjected to affirmative action."

From this, it is obvious that giving housing discounts to only Malays is unconstitutional and racist. If BN were not practicing a type of apartheid, it would give discounts to all poor people. This continuous and ridiculous harassment of the opposition leaders by the police shows that PDRM (Polis Diraja Malaysia) is now PDUM where U stands for Umno.

Lover Boy: Sorry Perkasa, where in the constitution that says that developers must give 5 percent discount for bumiputera purchasers of houses or properties? Under what act or law are the police investigating this as seditious? Can someone help, please.

Anonymous: While the crime rate in the country is going up and the rakyat feel unsafe, the police are using their manpower and other resources to go after trivial issues. Please get your priorities right, PDRM.

Henry Hock: Again this is may be a blessing in disguise. Yes, the police should go ahead to investigate Tony Pua and make this a public issue. Let this petty issue be publicise widely. Many Malaysians do not even fully comprehend the bumiputera discount issue or even know its existence. Let this be made known to the public at large.

Let the poor know also that such action indirectly hinders benefits from being channelled to them.

Kgen: It looks like the new IGP (inspector-general of police Ismail Omar) is bending over backwards to prove that he is more obedient than ‘tilam' Musa Hassan. What a waste of police time while fearful residents set up gated communities and women are afraid to carry handbags in the streets.

Ethnicmalaysian: The cops are using an Utusan Malaysia article as the basis for questioning Tony Pua and Khalid Ibrahim? That's like using RPK's (Raja Petra Kamarudin's) article on Altantuya Shaariibuu's killers to question Najib Razak and Rosmah Mansor, isn't it? But somehow, I don't think the cops will do that, would they?

Md Imraz Muhammed Ikhbal: Tony Pua's call to remove bumi discounts on homes, albeit on luxurious ones, is anything but wise. It is plain silly and certainly at the wrong time. It only serves to reinforce Malay anxiety, add credence to Utusan Malaysia's lies, reinforce vile creatures like Perkasa and garner more Malay support for Umno which claims to champion Malay rights.

But as an MP in a democratic country, Tony Pua has every right to suggest anything on what he is thinks is for the betterment of the society. Although it is plain stupid whatever he did, the move by the police to question him for sedition is clearly out of line and befitting a state of draconian rule.

Again, what do we expect of a government that apprehends a cartoonist with the view of charging him for sedition just for drawing cartoons?

Joe Lee: Tony Pua is saying, ‘take the discount from the rich and give it to the poor'. What, how, why is that a problem?

It's only a a problem for people who feels threatened by the truth; the truth of the hypocrisy of Umno talking about the welfare of Malays whilst busy lining their own pockets. This is the reason for unleashing the ‘attack dogs' from the Polis Diraja and the sub-contracted Perkasa jokers.

All the same, these little ‘samsengs' are actually very good at what they are doing - threatening the well-being of right-thinking Malaysians such as Tony Pua.

Vision 2020 target may be unachievable: Dr M

Anonymous: Even if I don't know much about Vision 2020, I also think it's not likely to be achieved so long BN is ruling this country. Malaysia can't even be compared to its neighbour in the South. When you have investors having better faith in our neighbour's judicial system compared to ours, how do you expect investors to come to Malaysia? Even the local investors go somewhere else.

Wira: Relax please, Tun (Mahathir Mohamad). You had your chance. Let the new CEO run the country without interference from you. Najib should be strong enough to cite you and your family for corruption. That would put this country on stronger footing. Regrettably so, like you surmise, he isn't strong enough.

Albert: I agree. But doesn't Mahathir know that the root cause is actually him? As the all-powerful PM of 22 years of this resource-rich country, Mahathir has left large numbers of poor Malays and non-Malays, thus reducing the demand of goods.

There were massive losses suffered by the country during his leadership through MAS, Port Klang Free Zone, forex trading, etc, which could have been used to improve the country's economy.

Not to mention, the sorry state of affairs in the judiciary, police, MACC which discourage both FDIs and local investments. And the RM50 billion out of RM52 billion worth of bumi equity that was disposed for quick profit during his tenure as PM, which could have being used to increase the wealth of the masses.

There was rampant corruption during his tenure as PM, which has become an incurable disease even today and increased the cost of doing business. His cronies and family (e.g. his billionaire son) being so filthy rich when large number of rakyat remains poor. Whenever he speaks now, he creates racial hatred, which scare off investors.

Joe Friday: As long as Dr M continues to lend support to Perkasa and gives conflicting views, he can say goodbye to his so-called vision.
