your say 'For all of Edmund Chong’s beloved ones, please be brave and the Almighty shall not fail you. For the late Chong, may you rest in peace.’

Batu Sapi MP dies in road accident

Hope: For all of Edmund Chong Ket Wah’s beloved ones' please be brave and the Almighty shall not fail you. For the late Chong, may you rest in peace. Hope you have done some good to the people of Sabah.

Mohd Adha Thangarajah Abdullah: I wish to extend my sincere condolences to his wife and family members. It must be a difficult time for them. I do not actually know much about YB Edmund. But from the many postings here, it seems that YB Edmund has been known to be a good man, politician. May his soul rest in peace.

As for the by-election, I just hope the people of Batu Sapi would get a person as good as YB Edmund, if not better. I wonder who the Pakatan Rakyat will nominate to stand for the bye-election. Christina Liew? Jeffrey Kitigan?

Lim Chong Leong: Condolences to Linda Tsen Thau Lin, her children and everyone in the family.

Black Mamba: Known to be a good man in Sabah politics. Man of principle.

Call me Jibby: So many ‘buy-elections’ in this two years’ time. People of Batu Sapi must be celebrating for new schools, bridges, community halls, business opportunities, and other economic developments to be promised by the government. I bet the date of this buy-election will be on the same day as Galas just to avoid Pakatan Rakyat politicians from flying to Sabah for the election campaign.

Lesungbatu: The Batu Sapi people in Sandakan should make sure they make a big time request to DPM Muhyiddin Yassin to convert Batu Sapi into a tourist destination. Clear off all the debris around the waters, request the removal of all the "illegal immigrants" in the surrounding areas, ask for two to three lanes of roads, undisrupted power supply and water supply, and not to forget all the bridges, 5-star schools, multi-purpose halls, etc.

We have a monkey called Rahimi Osman come up in time for the Galas buy-election, now we have another buy-election for Batu Sapi. I just can't wait for another surprise.

Victor Johan: Allah has his way of bringing about justice. May the late Edmund Chong rest in peace, and his family be strong and calm during this times. It’s inevitable, another by-election. I hope that the people there vote based on their welfare and that of the state and the nation to bring about change and move forward.

Truth: He was a good son, husband and father - a good man. May his soul rest in peace.

Azmin: I've been through the mill

Clear Soul: Well said. Azmin Ali, you’re very careful with your words and very humble, indeed. But fool us not, you came from Umno and you are well versed with proxy tactics. Raja Putra Kamuruddin in Malaysia Today has exposed your spending on house furniture during your high flying days in Umno. If you are as noble as you are trying so hard to portray, why don't you donate back all the ill-gotten wealth you got from those days and donate to the party for their struggle?

Tell me, what do you do to earn a living over the last 15years? How much is your salary? And you gonna tell me that you hit the jackpot like the three frogs in Perak? You can’t even show how your wealth came about, so stop talking about your ‘struggle’. You are just another opportunist like Dr Lee Choong Meng.

Anonymous: We Malaysians have been used to the BN style for almost 53 years, thus its natural all our new parties adopt the old master’s ways. Old habits are hard to change overnight, but I see the policies are changing and new faces like Nurul Izzah Anwar, Mustaffa Kamil Ayub, etc. Changes are definitely happening, though old habits still persist. I believe gradually things will change as it’s always a learning process that everyone must goes through. Let see what will come out of PKR after its party elections.

Gandhi: PKR should lead the way to show Malaysians that their leaders are of people who have simple tastes, modest demands and do not carve out elite settings for themselves. The prime minister of Sweden uses a bicycle to work. PKR leaders might earn respect if they displayed a frugal lifestyle. You have to face karma. The chicken will come home to roost after all that you have sinned while in power.

Aramsa: If Umno is a disease and people want to get cured, let them be healed. The scars may be there, but there is not need to cut of or cut open the scar. As long as no new scars are formed, the old scar is the reminder of their old day, and they will, hopefully, not go back to the old day. If Anwar Ibrahim and Azmin Ali say that they will stride hard for reformasi, then I would like to believe in them and in other people who want change.

Pemerhati: The country has been ruled by the extremely corrupt BN and some of the former BN people now in Pakatan, like Anwar, Azmin and Zaid Ibrahim might have also benefited from the billions of corrupt ringgit that were obtained by BN.

The important thing now is to ensure that Pakatan comes into power so that we have a two-party system. Pakatan should then establish a free media and ensure that institutions like the judiciary, elections commission and enforcement agencies are truly independent and run by capable and highly principled people. If Pakatan does not do that, then it would be another BN in the making.

Assuming Pakatan does bring in the necessary reforms, then we would be well on our way to becoming a First World country. A two-party system, a free press and independent institutions would ensure that corrupt politicians like Mahathir Mohamad and many others are quickly identified and removed before they and their families become billionaires by stealing the people's money.

Rahimi: I did not fear arrest

DOC: Well, I’ve got to admit that Malaysian politics is not short of drama. Not to mention the numerous number of able-bodied actors that we have. Why Malaysia can't be the next Bollywood or Hollywood is beyond my comprehension. Till then, we have to settle for our daily dose of Umnowood, thanks to the alternative media. Next job for Rahimi - lead actor in a TV3 drama.

Terus: Looks like in Malaysia, statutory declarations (SD) are becoming like cheap imitation CDs that can be reproduced so cheaply. Why is the Attorney-General’s Office not taking action against people who made false Sds?

KLeo: Sounds to me like Rahimi Osman is just bent on provoking Latheefa Koya into making a rash statement. I hope Anwar Ibrahim and his lawyers are prepared to deal with this new threat. Then again, if you watch Malaysiakini's interview video with Latheefa, you can't help thinking that Latheefa has something to hide.

Aku Malaysian: There you have it, by Rahimi Osman’s own admission, that he was mingling around with the policemen who was handling SodomyII - he is part of that conspiracy.

Sandakan: In 1Malaysia, anyone against BN has to be brave and be ready to make huge sacrifices for themselves, their family and the country. For this worm to run down those brave Malaysians is the height of hypocrisy and cowardice, and in doing so, has brought shame to himself, his family, his race and all honest Malaysians. Corruption, cowardice, greed and lack of morals are the reasons for his present actions.
