MACC, time to raid Defence Ministry over Scorpenes

your say 'MACC, are you going to raid the Defence Ministry and take away files on the purchase of two overly-expensive but useless Scorpene submarines?'

MACC raids KTMB offices over 'dodgy deal'

Rolls-Royce: For sure, from now to the next general elections, there will be more investigations and raids. But most of us know all the pomp would lead to nothing.

Why is the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) only investigate the ticketing system? Why not all the past purchases of locomotives, coaches and the endless ‘cost overrun' double-tracking job? What about all the RapidKL buses plying half-empty all over the city. How much does it cost the government?

Why can't they let the private sector run these buses as private enterprises? Didn't we have vibrant private bus companies before? Who destroyed a well-developed industry with its ill-conceived NEP and half-baked public enterprises?

Zimbobwe: Quite possibly, KTMB has little to say in these matters. The KTMB senior management is essentially Umno-appointed to serve as a front, behind which ugly shenanigans orchestrated by the finance minister and their MCA flunkeys in the Transport Ministry can proceed unhindered by public scrutiny.

Gen2 Indian: Why am I not surprised KTMB is losing the rakyat's hard-earned money? Just look at the grossly inflated Ipoh-Padang Besar double-tracking project awarded to Gamuda-MMC at a negotiated rate.

Who suffers but the rakyat when the BN government has to bail out KTM while the well-connected people live off the rakyat's sweat and tears?

Lover Boy: So this company with no experience can get the job, are we surprised? Do not be a hypocrite, MACC - in Malaysia, that is the way things are done. School and stadium roofs can collapse, Parliament leak.

All this because of what? Design fault? You know the real reason. No way can KTMB turn itself around and the taxpayers will have to carry this baby again.

Playfair: A sudden burst of energy by MACC. Is it "winds of change", "new brooms sweeping clean" or just a wayang kulit (theatrics) before an impending election to deflect the rakyat's frustration with institutionalised corruption?

Ravindran Supiiah: Let AirAsia take over KTMB and see if within a year, it will start to make money.

Sarajun Hoda: KTMB's management teams are people with no ideas, no forward thinking and still running KTMB like a government department.

Other countries changed the tracks to wider range more than 20 years ago and run trains above 300 km/hr but Malaysia is even now still building narrow tracks at great cost to taxpayers. People running KTMB trains have no vision.

Recently some used coaches arrived at our ports given free by Japan. They had no business being there, yet about 20 carloads of KTM people from its headquarters came to see the coaches. Pretending to be carrying out inspections, they took photos supposedly to appear in their magazine and quickly left.

If this is how KTMB is run, how do you expect it to make money? The useless people are wasting our hard-earned money that we pay as taxes. Yet to feed these idiots, some taxpayers get severely punished for late payments.

Mohbalas: There are many such practises. MACC should just look at the awards made by Prasarana over the past few years. Participants were dictated the price to be quoted and allocation of ‘proceeds'.

Unfortunately, proof would be difficult to obtain but in such circumstances, there would be a lot of trails left behind and it would not be too difficult for MACC to find the evidence if the intention is there. That's the key - do you really want to clean up or it's is just a GE sandiwara .

Anonymous_3e86: Does the BN government think they can con us into believing that they are serious about eradicating corruption? The rakyat has learnt the bitter lesson of trust for 53 years.

Does BN still expect us to trust them? Trust the judiciary? Trust the police? Trust MACC? Over my dead body. Hey MACC, you forgot one more case - the Scorpene submarines.

MySecret Eh: What is so wrong with awarding contracts to underqualified or companies with virtually no experience? The Scorpene submarines negotiations were supported by such a company to the tune of nearly half a billion ringgit. It's a standard operating procedure. Think of the ‘multiplier' effects, too.

It's against the constitution, the Malays and royalties if this were not practised. Perkasa will be screaming at your door if it was awarded to a non-bumiputera, and screaming louder still if it was investigated by the MACC.

Abang Adek: MACC, are you going to raid the Defence Ministry and take away files on the purchase of two overly-expensive but useless Scorpene submarines? Or is KTMB just a scapegoat for polishing the image of a corrupt BN before elections?

David Yee 154a: I am still not convince the Malaysian Agency for Car and Cow is doing enough to be independent. It's strange they acted super fast on TBH (Teoh Beng Hock) and super slow on Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo.

KTMB: No role in disputed tender

Anon_1064: MACC, of course, is investigating the wrong party. Do you really expect them to investigate the Transport Ministry?

Docs: It looks like this MACC investigation has opened a can of worms. Let's see where this leads to, for which I am certain it will lead to some big Umno honcho. After all, almost all road paved with corruption ultimately leads to Umno.

Once we reach the man on the top, MACC will suddenly pull its plug on this investigation. Wait and see. As with all heated MACC investigations, iced water will get poured on it at some point.
