Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) still regards Badrul Hisham Abdullah as Port Klang assemblyman although state assembly speaker Teng Chang Khim has declared the seat vacant.

NONE Selangor Opposition Leader Satim Diman ( left ) said Badrul Hisham had the right to take his case to court following Teng's action and to Selangor BN, he was still an elected representative as long as there was no court decision on the matter.

"Badrul Hisham is expected to file his application (for a court order that he is still the legitimate Port Klang assemblyman) tomorrow.

"He should therefore be given the space and opportunity to attend the state assembly sitting," he said when met at the Selangor Umno building, Shah Alam, today.

Last Wednesday, Teng who is also the DAP assemblyman for Sungai Pinang, declared the Port Klang seat vacant, giving the reason as Badrul Hisham's failure to attend the state assembly sitting over a period of six months without a valid reason, based on Articles 69 and 70 of the State constitution where there is no provision for appeal.

'Speaker taking revenge'

Badrul Hisham had won the Port Klang seat on a Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) ticket in the 2008 general election with a 4,407-vote majority, defeating the BN and independent candidates.

He, however, quit PKR in October, 2009 and became an Umno-friendly independent assemblyman. He applied to join Umno in May last year.

Satim likened Teng's action in declaring the Port Klang seat vacant to taking revenge against Badrul Hisham for leaving PKR and joining Umno.

Meanwhile, Badrul Hisham went met, told reporters that he would go to court tomorrow to file his application against the speaker's decision.
