Najib 'thankful' for RPK's disclosure

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today expressed thankfulness over Raja Petra Kamaruddin’s disclaimer yesterday over the allegations that he and his wife were involved in the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Najib with his facebook gathering in Kuching, showing finger Speaking to reporters in Lawas, Najib was quoted as having said he knew the truth would prevail in a matter that has dogged the premier ever since a close associate - Razak Baginda - was charged with abetment over the murder of the Mongolian national.

Razak has since been acquitted of the charge, although two members of the police’ Special Action Unit face the gallows after being found guilty for Altantuya’s death.   

“I've always considered the matter closed. It was only an issue in the realm of the court of public opinion,” he was reported by the Star as saying in Lawas, Sarawak.

Najib also said he leaves the matter for the public to evaluate for themselves.

NONE In a dramatic turn of events, an interview with Raja Petra was yesterday aired by major television stations in which he disclaimed any responsibility for accusations that Najib and Rosmah were involved in the Altantuya murder.

In an exclusive interview with TV3 group editor Ashraf Abdullah, the Malaysia Today webmaster claimed people close to top politicians such as Opposition leader Anwar were behind the accusations against Najib to prevent him from succeeding Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as prime minster.

“I have never accused the Prime Minister or his wife as being involved in the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder case,” Raja Petra was recorded as telling Ashraf in Perth, Australia.

In a blog posting immediately following the broadcast of the interview, Raja Petra also accused people close to former Umno vice-president and one-time finance minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah of having driven the accusations in order to thwart Najib - who was at the time deputy prime minister - from replacing Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as prime minister.
