If Najib plays dirty, unleash Bersih 3.0

your say 'His chameleon-like switch on policy matters reinforces the notion that he is either morbidly unprincipled or some hidden forces are dictating his every move.'

Bersih says PSC pointless once Parliament dissolved

Lin Wenquan: It is all too clear that the PM has not been sincere about any of his transformation plans that he has so verbosely proclaimed so far, the latest being the reforming EC for fair and free elections.

His chameleon-like switch on policy matters reinforces the notion that he is either morbidly unprincipled or some hidden forces are dictating his every move and intention. Both ways, he leadership leaves much to be desired.

The stakes are too high for Umno-BN to genuinely agreeing to a revamp of the EC (Election Commission) because by removing the fraud and cheating they would perhaps suffer the ignominy of being voted out of office by a disgruntled populace.

He certainly doesn't want to go down in history in humiliation as the leader of a government that was extirpated after being the ruling party for half a century.

Perhaps, the solution is for a massive rejection by the voters for BN so much so that EC's bag of tricks will not be good enough for a fraudulent BN win. A long shot indeed, but worth trying though.

Ghkok: Najib Razak's rush to hold the next elections without sorting out the discrepancies in the electoral roll is totally irresponsible and malicious, and definitely a threat to national security.

Imagine the possibility of tens of thousands, perhaps even hundreds of thousands, of non-citizens, plus thousands of clones and phantoms, going to the polls and directly influencing the destiny of our country. This is totally unacceptable.

Anonymous_408b: "This totally defeats the purpose and spirit of setting up the PSC (parliamentary select committee) as it is meant to resolve serious fraudulent practices in the electoral processes," said Bersih's steering committee.

PM has insulted our intelligence and he thinks he can lie and lie again. Stop talking about PSC, people. It is a scam and a lie.

We must together again take the advantage of Hari Raya to promote Bersih to our friends and family. We educate and tell our rural folks why we must support Bersih.

Isa@1penyu: Who cares if the electoral rolls are tainted. The bottom line is - can non-voters vote? If they can't, why the fuss?

After winning five states, the opposition is still making a fuss over EC. I think it is about time they grow up and face the rakyat. And if Pakatan Rakyat did a good job in the states they have won, then maybe they will win Putrajaya.

But we all know that PKR has helped mess up Pakatan, PAS has lost its support and DAP is only holding onto the Chinese votes as a racist party.

So the outcome for GE13 is clear. BN will win again - it is all because Pakatan does not know how to govern.

Faz: Dear isa@1penyu, I had read most of your comments here, and none of them are to my liking. But, as in any democratic system, I do respect you for your views and you have the right to make those views known.

My only sadness is that, if you're a Malay as I am one too, you are not the kind of Malays the country needs now.

Keanjin: Electoral reform before the next GE is very unlikely for the following reasons:

1) If there is electoral reform before the next GE, BN has no chance of winning.

2) No more postal votes, refer to 1.

Anonymous: There will be more surprises in store. The next batch of newly registered voters ending Sept 30 will have thousands and thousands of Indonesians as voters.

Parliament will then be dissolved and the EC will declare that they cannot do anything due to time constraints. GE 13 will be in November.

Najib 'insincere' with electoral reform proposal

Cannon: It's consistent of this forked-tongue PM to say one thing and do the opposite. With Bersih, he tells the nation that Bersih could hold its rally inside a stadium and renegades on his word to deny Bersih the use of a stadium.

Acting to deflect public pressure from the Bersih rally, he forms the so-called PSC and now turns around to say the general election can be held without waiting for the completion of the needed electoral reform.

In other words, Umno-BN has absolutely no real intention to initiate any substantive reform that would undercut the regime's grip on power. Najib is trying to spin and manipulate his way to keep his position.

The opposition and civil society should persevere to expose the electoral rigging that have been going on. The sovereign will of the electorate is not reflected in the elections results, distorted by Umno-BN's systemic cheating.

If Najib insists on playing dirty, the people should get ready to answer him with a massive Bersih 3.0.

Bert: When Najib announced that the PSC would look into the electoral reforms, most people thought the PM has come to his senses. Many hoped to to see some reform, but he has now dropped a bomb.

Tell me, when was the PM ever sincere when dealing with the people? He only wants to hold on to power at all cost.

Karma: Believe it, this is like the Najib's stadium offer, the PM will say, 'I mean the 'next' GE, not the 'coming' GE.

Look at what happened to his 1Malaysia slogan when he later turned around and said he can't stop the Muslim from protesting. Upon this, a few churches were torched the following days.

He criticised Anwar for being immoral when the latter threatened to take over the country through defections, but he then turned around to take over Perak despite the people booted them out in 2008 GE.

Quigonbond: No need to ask, we already know the PSC is just a diversion. Najib probably thinks the opposition will rejoice and not ask too many questions or make too many demands.

Now that the opposition is demanding for what is right in terms of depth of PSC mandate and composition, and a commitment from the PM that the elections would not be held until after the PSC is done with its job, Najib realised that he has failed to hoodwink the opposition, and has decided to close the door before all the skeletons come out of the closet.

We might as well not have the PSC in the first place. Pakatan will do well to consider Bersih 3.0 to drive home the message that the rakyat's yearning for free and fair elections is very, very real, instead of trying to squeeze water out of the BN stone.
