Expect PM's 'bumi quotas to go' to be stillborn

vox populi small thumbnail 'Words are cheap, but cheapest when uttered by Najib. There are too many times that beautifully crafted slogans ended up hollow.'

Bumiputera quotas set to go, says Najib

Faz: A journey of a thousand mile starts with the first step. But I have not seen even a baby's step in place since the succession of pronouncements made by PM Najib Razak. Later, statements to the contrary were aired, making these proposals ‘stillborn'.

I am not convinced of Najib's politically correct statements as they are going against the patronage system, which is the bread and butter of Umno.

The PM does not stand a chance against the warlords of Umno. So the bottom line is, I do not believe in you and Umno-BN anymore, come what may.

Abasir: Najib has a major credibility problem of his own making. He has cried 'wolf' too many times; he has relied on meaningless sound bites and silly appearances to 'rebrand' himself; and he has not even listened to himself (like when he promised he would face Anwar Ibrahim in court).

Now, no one takes him seriously, not even the low life in Umno.

Onyourtoes: So finally you admit that the NEP implemented so far are not meant for ‘bright bumiputera'. You finally admit that the NEP implemented so far was based on ‘know who' and not ‘know how'?

Can you tell us now who have siphoned all these bumi benefits in the last 40 years? Can you ask them to return the undeserved benefits?

The culture is now so ingrained that even non-bumiputera businessmen are also relying on ‘know who' rather than ‘know how' to thrive. How then can we expect productivity-driven growth and a high-income economy? Dream on, my friends.

Kgen: And when will "eventually" be? You're so scared of Perkasa you can't even take the first baby step.

The ETP (Economic Transformation Programme) has been degraded to another NEP. In 50 years' time, if Umno continues to rule, I can bet you that there will still be bumi quotas, and they may be even worse.

Louis: Words are cheap, but cheapest when uttered by Najib. There are too many times that beautifully crafted slogans ended up hollow.

Now, for the sake of winning votes, he has come up with this bold slogan which is nothing but election gimmicks. Just wait for Ibrahim Ali's battle cry against this empty slogan and you will see how Najib would claim that he was misquoted.

Najib, the 30 percent quota on equity is mainly pocketed by Umnoputras. The deserving bumis hardly get a hand on it.

If the bumi were to protest, it would come from the Umnoputras. After all, the poor bumis are hardly affected by this move.

Clearwater: If you want to develop bumi entrepreneurs, start from the bottom. No free rides, no crutches, no short cuts, no excuses.

Inculcate the values of hard work, thriftiness, perseverance and the desire to succeed on one's merits. Face adversity with fortitude. Hand these values down from one generation to another. Only then will you have a chance of success.

Moon: Talk is cheap. Do you expect us to jump for joy? Please don't undermine the intelligence of Malaysians.

Puad: Anwar once labelled Ibrahim Libya a 'traitor'

Avatar1: As the election looms nearer, we can see more apple-polishing politicians emerging. In Malaysia, to be in the good books of BN and Umno, one needs only to talk bad of Anwar and you get rewarded by the powers-that-be.

DNA: If Ibrahim Libya was a traitor, so is Umno. Giving out Malaysian citizenship freely in exchange for votes is treason, isn't it?

Wira: Any leader can be a changed person who looks at life and liberty differently if he gets assaulted by the IGP (inspector-general of police), goes to prison and remains there for four years after being convicted under a false charge.

Kgen: Does Umno have nothing to do except dig up rubbish from 30 years ago and try to tarnish the opposition with sex allegations?

These are not issues we should be concerned with when the economy is going downhill and people's lives are getting harder.

I can't be bothered with what Anwar said when he was education minister. Umno is expert at diverting attention from issues of importance to pointless sideshows.

MatrixLYN: What if Anwar said all that? If those fellows were armed with firearms and all sorts of weapons, certainly it's fair for Anwar to label them as terrorists or traitors.

Do normal people arm themselves with firearms? And it just so happened these people were from PAS.

So maybe there is a small faction of fanatics in PAS, is it fair then to label all PAS members as fanatics? We know there are many Muslim terrorists, so it's fair to label all Muslims as terrorists?

'Dr Mahathir has nothing to do with Lynas'

Onyourtoes: Sure RM9 million is loose change for former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and son.

But is this not what transparency and governance are all about? It does not matter whether it is RM9 million or RM1, there is vested interest.

Malaysian for Malaysia: I still don't understand why Lynas needs to build the plant here.

With the cheap and available land all over Australia, and well-protected coves in Western Australia that can handle large ships, and adding value by processing the ore not far from where it's actually mined, I'm sure there must be something that Lynas is hiding if it chose Malaysia for its operations.

All in all, I and many Malaysians, don't buy the reason why Lynas must be here, let alone near a highly populated area like Kuantan. Go back to Australia, Lynas.

My Thor: Who would believe that Mahathir has nothing to do with Lynas when his son is awarded the contract. It boils down to 'giving face' even though it is an open tender within the control of Lynas. That's business, and the art of favouritism.

Pants on Fire: God, how big money has now become loose change for the corporate guys and politicians.

Please, Lynas, the amount can be small but the link to Mahathir's son is not. When he speaks, Mahathir always think of the consequences. There is vested interest, however small.

-----: In the company I work for, if my son joins another company which is a competitor or in the same line of business, or has dealings with my company, I have to report it to legal and senior management, even if that company is in another country.
