PAS needs to be saved from Hasan Ali

VOXPOP 'Now that Hasan has decided to come out into the open to call for unity, PAS should do the needful and sack him.'

'Saviour' Hasan to pursue PAS-Umno unity

Quigonbond: The first step to be a saviour is to retire from dirty politics and lead a humble life. In that itself, Selangor exco Hasan Ali would already fail.

Second, just because there are Muslims in the same party, does it mean they are united? Just look at Umno with its Dr Mahathir Mohamad faction, Najib Razak faction and others. Let's not even talk about uniting Umno and PAS. Even if Hasan joins Umno, he won't be able to unite the factions there.

Anyway, the unity that Hasan is espousing probably has to do with political support for a particular party. It means all Malay Muslims in Malaysia are homogenous in thought and action when it comes to this issue. It's frankly insulting to the Malays, and actually quite unthinkable in this day and age.

Now that Hasan has decided to come out into the open to call for unity, which is not a Pakatan platform, PAS should do the needful and sack him. More so that he's an exco.

Saneesvara: What does Hasan mean by ‘promoting unity'? Is it through pursuing ‘ketuanan' (supremacy) of one race over all others?

A Unity Ministry in the PM's Department? Hasn't he done enough damage as it is? He has set three criteria that he is fighting for - Malays, Islam and monarchy. How will he represent the nation's interest if he has narrowed his vision to only these three?

Unity government with Umno? He can do that outside of government. Let him be in charge of convincing Umno to see that Pakatan Rakyat's way is the just way.

Anyone who says he is only beholden to God, really means he is only beholden to himself. Kick him out for good, and for God.

Disgusted: Look how Hasan talks: "If I am the person who is believed to be able to unite the Malays and Muslims, then I am ready to take up that burden."

It looks like he is a disciple of Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin - Malay first and Malaysian second - only that he is hiding under the cloak of Islam.

"Quizzed about the unity agenda between Umno and PAS, he said that he would continue to pursue it as he believed it is one that must be pursued."

This statement itself sounds alarm bells to Pakatan that he is an Umno mole and a potential ‘katak' (someone who switches parties).

It's as good as BN winning the seat if he is re-elected. PAS should take heed of this warning from the rakyat. Dump Hasan or the rakyat will dump PAS in that constituency.

Alan Goh: What he is trying to say is this: "It is all right for me to be a servant of two masters, standing on a PAS platform but able and willing to accept a federal post in the Prime Minister's Department."

Our religion taught us that no one can be a servant of two masters, either he serves and worships God or serves and worships money. He is endeavouring to do both.

David Dass: It is like the whites of Europe and America saying whites should unite in the face of threats from non-whites.

It is like Christians of the world or any one country in the world saying that they should unite in the face of threats from Muslims. It is like the Hindus of India saying that they should unite to meet the threat posed by Muslims. It is like saying that the Buddhists of Thailand and China should unite to face the threat posed by Muslims.

Why not be united by a political ideology like the Republicans and the Democrats in the US or like Labour and the Conservatives in the UK? There is something odd about the majority uniting to meet the threat posed by the minority.

It is also quite insidious the oft-repeated assertion that the majority are entitled to more rights. It also assumes that the minority are in fact a threat to the majority - an assumption that is patently false unless the objective is to establish dominance or ‘Ketuanan Melayu'. What does this do with 1Malaysia?

AB Sulaiman: To me, this case is clearly a game called hedging - to take insurance or to be ready with Plan B. If Plan A fails, then go to Plan B.

Hasan Ali might have seen the writing on the wall that he might not be chosen as a PAS candidate at the next GE. So he is hedging to adopt Plan B: jump over to Umno and hope to be made one.

It looks like the mass media is paving the way and making it easy for him to do this. He is a political survivor and opportunist, so to him this is 'business as usual'.

But the innocent electorate might not sense the plot - for to them Hasan is for Malay unity, for Islam, so vote for him. It's the country that suffers in the end.

Dood: Well, Hasan has basically outed himself as either a naive fool or a dangerous pretender. In any case, he needs to be dropped.

Ramasamy: I am not a parachute politician

KLeo: How often do we see DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh acting up? He has always projected himself as a calm and collected leader.

But he's still human and that means he can make mistakes. If he had let his emotions get carried away, Karpal should swallow his ego and apologise.

It the same for Deputy Chief Minister P Ramasamy (I should note that The Star carried an article depicting an arrogant Karpal turning away when Ramasamy approached him to shake his hand).

Semi Value: First, Ramasamy asked for a state seat under the Nibong Tebal parliamentary constituency to be given to an Indian.

Second, he proposed that three Indian woman candidates be given seats in coming GE13. Third, he suggested that one of the women contest in Bagan Dalam (now represented by A Thanasegaran).

So what he had in his mind was to remove assemblypersons RSN Rayer (Seri Delima) and Thanasegaran and bring in his preferred candidates in GE13, while he defends the Prai state seat.

He wants to become the ‘boss' of Indians in Penang, eventually, by removing all his ‘competitors'. But he is playing the wrong game.

A simple apology would have solved the entire problem. Just imagine if any menteri besar or minister made the same remarks about the Umno president? Would that person be left off the hook?

Tbala: Ramasamy said: "The issue now has gone beyond him as it is now an Indian community issue."

What Indian community issue are you talking about? Why should the Indian community get angry with Rayer?

Rayer did not ask for the DCM post to be withdrawn. He is just saying that Ramasamy doesn't deserve to be the deputy chief minister. It must be given to a more deserving Indian. So why must the Indians get angry?

OneTruly Malaysian: I for one, will never ever doubt the great contributions of Karpal Singh or DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.

But godfathers like Karpal should not be on the pedestal and worshipped like a god who does no wrong. The speech by Karpal at the AGM shows he is not statesman material.

He is no better than a small-town bully. Veteran leaders should be honoured and respected, but they cannot be arrogant and dictatorial.

Kompas: I respect Ramasamy's dedication in fighting the mighty Umno-BN government in the Broga incinerator case in Selangor. I wish Karpal would accept Ramasamy's offer of reconciliation.
