Hindraf leaders split over 'marriage' with ABU

Pemerhati: Compared to P Uthayakumar, what P Waythamoorthy says seems to make a lot of sense. At this stage, the most important thing to do is to get rid of the extremely corrupt, racist and kleptocratic BN.

We have seen that Pakatan Rakyat is not perfect, but it would definitely be very much better than BN as Pakatan's leaders, whatever their faults, are not big-time thieves.

Not removing BN now would mean that the country will continue to be mismanaged and hundreds of billions of ringgit would continue to leave the country resulting in a financial catastrophe in the not-too-distant future.

More importantly, bringing Pakatan into power would result in the establishment of a two-party system where the opposition party will highlight any wrongdoing by the party in power and the people can then take the necessary corrective action at the elections which, unlike now, would be free and fair.

Ferdtan: Didn't Uthayakumar see the video where a few mat rempit, obviously Umno supporters, played on racial sentiment and insulted the Indians who were there?

What does Hindraf expect - guard dogs at the door and rooftop snipers? I watched the videos and I thought that the organisers reacted very responsibly given the circumstances.

Uthayakumar was a self-proclaimed legal advisor. The two brothers then hijacked the movement following its success. The ad-hoc coalition broke up due to the egocentric actions of the duo and it lost its steam.

Now these two are seeking to upstage each other.

RR: Islamic departments raiding the Obedient Wives Club (OWC) for promoting that "the Prophet is the icon of pure sex" is only making the OWC more popular in the eyes of the rakyat.

Now more and more people will read and give the Prophet a bad name with regard to sexual activities. If the Muslims are firm in their belief, then this club would not have any impact on them.

Clever Voter: Sex education is healthy and should be encouraged. But this is an attempt to perpetuate the suppression of women.

Removing the rights of women through such indoctrination or institutionalisation of women behaviour is no different than removing their individual right to choose.

Women in most third world societies have been abused for centuries. We must grow up and reject such ancient and irrelevant practice in our society.

GoneBananas: Ashaari Muhammad was targeted and destroyed by Dr Mahathir Mohamad through the Special Branch because he was getting increasingly popular and powerful as a leader.

He had every right to preach his personal vision of Islam and those who wish to join the OWC have every right to do so.

49boybum: Islam is a religion that seeks to bring about social changes. The religion's sole aim was to eliminate ignorance and bring about enlightenment among the people.

It professed the importance of education, social equality and respect of the minority.

At a time when women lost the protection of their men due to various reasons, the Prophet allowed polygamous relationship not for sexual gratification, but to protect the women and what belonged to them.

To use this to justify polygamous relationships in the current context is absolutely wrong and the religion would not condone it in the first place.

These people should channel their energy on more constructive issues, like the elimination of corruption, social injustice, blatant abuse of power, etc.

What we need is a SCWC - Socially Constructive Wives Club - that strives to ensure a progressive society rather than a submissive regressive society.
