Toll cuts: Najib has taken taxpayers for a long ride

YOURSAY ‘This is no reduction of toll at all. This is a rescheduling, and paying the concessionaire using taxpayers' money.'

RM120mil spent for Cheras-Kajang Highway toll cuts

your say Onyourtoes: Ask them how the RM120 million compensation and the 15 years extension came about.

Ask them to disclose the working numbers in detail - yes, comparing the revenue forgone (as the result of toll reduction) and the RM120 million they get up front and the extension period by another 15 years. Ask them to include the time value of money as well.

This is no reduction of toll at all. This is a rescheduling, and paying the concessionaire using taxpayers' money.

Don't forget, 15 years down the road, the traffic volume could be even bigger due to economic growth. Have they included this into their calculation? I can bet with my last ringgit, they did not.

Martha: As the saying goes 'It's too good to be true'. Haven't we been made suckers?

PM Najib Razak, why make fools of the rakyat time and again? You are really sowing the seeds of destruction.

Lone_star: The rakyat are not so naive. When there are toll cuts or abolishment, there is always some compensation behind the scene and it always ends up with the rakyat at the lousy end.

Is the compensation paid up front? If so, that is another bonus for the toll collector.

The RM500 People's Aid (BR1M) comes not from Najib's pocket but out of the taxpayers'. The 1.7 million taxpayers should be given the opportunity to give these handouts instead of these shameless BN representatives.

Just imagine who gets all the thanks from the unsuspecting BR1M recipients?

Righteous: These blokes spend and spend, and our children and grandchildren pay. Reasons and justification are all but excuses.

This is a case of ‘buy now, pay later' as most of us oldies won't be around to foot the bill. Neither will those responsible be around to answer.

2CTS WORTH: Well, we have to admit Umno is the bestest money-spinning organisation in the whole world.

The flaw is that only a trickle flows our way. The rest flows in torrents like Niagara Falls into the Umnoputra's safe.

Another heavy cash flow is the Lynas rare earth plant which must proceed at all costs. Ah Jib Gor (brother Najib) has been adamant that the plant is safe. The key word is ‘safe'. Got it?

James1067: It looks like the future generation will be paying all their lives not only the national debt but also paying these cronies so that they and their family can live a comfortable life.

The job of the government is to make life easy for their people, but sad to say, these people are only thinking of themselves.

Tailek: This is grand larceny by all these BN crony blood-sucking toll operators. Future generations of Malaysians will bear the brunt of these ridiculous toll concessions that keep on being extended while their owners bask in the sunshine.

The BN government negotiated poorly the concession terms (perhaps purposely to benefit the crony operators) and then when it wants to throw out some freebies during election time like reducing toll charges, it turns into an excuse for the toll companies to get an extension on their concession.

There is one big conspiracy here. Reducing tolls may cost an operator RM100 million but the extension will net them hundreds and hundreds of millions more. It's a no-brainer, even a businessman with Year Three education will not object.

Omarmn: For a few years, travelling from Kajang to Kuala Lumpur or vice versa - a distance of about 19km - motorists have got to go through three toll gates.

"If you don't want to pay, you can always take the old road" was former transport minister S Samy Vellu's famous phrase, repeated every now and then.

Until today, ask Samy to show us that old road where you don't have to pay... Ada ka tarak, itu lu punya hal (Got or not, it's your problem).

In other words, Kajang folk, like it or not, have to face two toll gates until 2045.

Anonymous: Pakatan Rakyat should just nationalise all of these highways when it takes over or call in all the concessionaires and tell them either they agree to new and fairer terms for the people, the government will terminate their agreements and take over the highways without paying them any compensation.

These agreements are daylight robbery to enrich cronies of Umno-BN, period.

Malaysiawatch4.blogspot: Yes, they give you a few crumbs and take away your money for much longer. Some Klang Valley folk will pay tolls for a lifetime.

FellowMalaysian: What a short-lived cheer Najib gave when he announced the halving of toll charges. Now the road-users has to bear the brunt of paying the toll for another 15 years.

And yet, the concessionaire was compensated a further RM120 million. Najib can't be trusted and we should throw him out of Putrajaya this coming GE13.

Headhunter: So who's paying? Now the whole country instead of just the motorists who use the highways. Sigh... the good life of a crony.
