Firing tear gas into packed crowd could kill, too

YOURSAY 'Someone could have easily died in the resulting chaos. It was the police who were trying to cause deaths.'

'Cops have proof that elements wanted deaths'

your say Good Men: I would say I agree with deputy inspector-general of police (DIGP) Khalid Abu Bakar that there were parties which wanted deaths to occur - hence the firing of tear gas into a tightly packed crowd.

Someone could have easily died in the resulting chaos. It was the police who were trying to cause deaths.

Quigonbond: Khalid Abu Bakar, you mean when your police thugs were bashing up people, and they screamed back saying your physical and violent intimidation won't stop them from attending another rally even if it means that you will kill them, you take that to mean they want deaths?

RKR: Khalid, you say you have proof that an individual made remarks about deaths during the protest. You are also saying that merely uttering such words is not an offence under the law.

So what's your point? Are you saying the intention of Bersih 3.0 was to cause deaths because one person said so? I am confused.

Dhammika: The police and minister are taking the outburst of one single individual as the statement of Bersih.

The individual's outburst was out of anger and anguish from the brutality of the police. This is an emotional response when someone is intimidated.

If a number of people make harsh and vulgar comments against the government, it doesn't mean the whole populace is like that. What type of deputy IGP and home minister do we have?

Odin: It seems to me that it was the police who had the intention to cause serious injuries and even deaths of the rally goers.

Refer to the Bar Council's final report on the rally. DIGP, the brutal actions of your men, and the fact that many of them did not wear their names and numbers tags clearly illustrate your intention to punish these defenceless, unarmed rally goers.

9blind Freddo: The police must have some very sophisticated recording equipment. I'm surprised the average cop would know how to use something like this.

I wonder if they studied the footage of police violence to the same degree they seem to be studying the actions of the public.

Don't Play-Play: Khalid, now is not the time for the police to just talk. It is time for stern actions. Arrest them. Charge them in court. Nail them.

This minority of good-for-nothing citizens should be put away for good so that the majority will be able to continue living in peace.

You have the support of the majority peaceloving citizens. Hidup PDRM (Long live the Royal Malaysian Police)!

Louis: Khalid, you are fast following the footsteps of former PAS leader Hasan Ali who talks a lot about Muslims converting to Christianity but cannot furnish concrete proof.

What about Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein raising his keris during an Umno assembly? Was there not an element of wanting deaths?

Similarly PM Najib Razak's alleged famous quotation, "Bathe the keris with Chinese blood". Isn't this statement more fearful than talking about five deaths?

No, the statement pales in comparison to Najib's alleged remark and Hishammuddin's threatening gesture.

Tancc: This is the same clown that said the NFC (National Feedlot Corporation) was above board . This is the quality of people running the police force today.

One of the most important institutions of the country is now acting like Umno's private army. Change we must, or Malaysia is doomed.

Anonymous_3f6d: When I was hit by the tear gas, watching all the ‘pakcik' and ‘makcik' and young children coughing, in tears and trying to breathe, I too wanted evil things to occur on the person who fired the tear gas and also the person who issued the command.

Does this count too ? I am sure thousand of protestors have that same thought too.

Doc: Hishammuddin and the police claim that Pakatan bigwigs took part in Bersih 3.0 in the hope of toppling the BN government.

With statements and conspiracy theories like that from the Hishammuddin and the deputy IGP, it seem to me that they are working fervently to help Pakatan topple BN in the polls by pushing more people to support the opposition. Talk about shooting an own goal.

Bender: If I'm not mistaken, DIGP's boss Najib Razak also allegedly called for bloodshed when he called upon people to help him defend Putrajaya . How was that different compared to this one?

When the nation's No 1 person called for bloodshed, isn't that a legitimate call for people to incur injury upon others, or even death?

At least in this case, as you yourself pointed out, the ‘death threat' was made in emotionally-charged circumstances, which means nothing.

Najib's call, on the other hand, is akin to an order coming from a national leader. Go figure that out before you bark like a member of Umno's K9 unit.

Magic Mountain: A total of 612 police reports - how many are citizens reporting that they were brutalised by police and how many reports are by police personnel brutalised by citizens?

TruthSansBorders: Of course, they wanted deaths. They were armed with salt and vinegar.
