YOURSAY 'If Zahid is right, then Malaysian courts have no right to try foreigners accused of committing crimes under Malaysian law.'
You're wrong, French lawyer tells Zahid Hamidi
Changeagent: Between French lawyer Joseph Brehem and Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the former definitely has more credibility in interpreting the reach of the French jurisdiction.
PM Najib Razak and Zahid should just cooperate if they are subpoenaed by the inquiry to save the country from further embarrassment, especially if they have nothing to hide.
Imagine the possible scenario where both the prime minister and defence minister are issued with international warrant of arrest.
DontPlayGod: In the interest of justice and truth, why are Zahid and Najib afraid?
In fact, Zahid and Najib should voluntarily come forward to clear matters up and uphold truth and justice as exemplary ministers and senior leaders of the country.
As it is, the whole world is watching with bated breadth to see their every move. Come on, Zahid, you and Najib should show a good example to your countrymen and the whole world.
Show them your leadership and your desire to have this case probed to the fullest to uncover the truth and clear your name.
Bartimaeus 2020: The photos of the son of a loud-mouthed Muslim federal minster cavorting with semi-naked women and drinking alcohol have been disseminated throughout the Internet. He has not been investigated for khalwat and haram offences.
On the other hand, the leader of the opposition, Anwar Ibrahim is being made to undergo a shameful and protracted court circus to answer an unfounded allegation of sexual impropriety. Why the double standards?
Yet Najib, who was booed by loyal Malaysians in London recently, has the insolence to insist that only Umno can defend Islam. To all right-thinking Malaysians however it is clear that it is Umno which is disgracing the religion.
Zahid Hamidi does not seem to care for the universal values of truth and honesty. How then can he be a good parent or even a loyal citizen of Malaysia?
Abu Hasan: If Zahid is right, then Malaysian courts have no right to try foreigners accused of committing crimes under Malaysian law.
Lim Chong Leong: We will have a fugitive PM and defence minister soon. Ahmad Zahid can talk big all he wants now but when they issue the warrant, see how he will squirm.
And Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor, please make this trip to Europe worthwhile because it will be your last before you become Europe's most wanted couple.
Anonymous_3e86: Zahid's statements will be taken notice by all diplomatic missions in Malaysia and around the world.
His and the government's refusal to cooperate will be perceived as a sign of guilt. While BN is in control of Putrajaya, other governments won't do anything to jeopardise diplomatic relations with Malaysia.
But when there is a change in government, these corrupt BN politicians will have to go into hiding.
Starr: To be told 'you are wrong, minister', goes to show what sorts of calibre the leaders we have in our midst.
Apart from the legal obligations of those who have been subpoenaed by the French court, Najib and Zahid do own the ministerial responsibility to the Malaysians at large to appear before the French court, especially it concerns the payment of commission for the purchase of two Scorpene submarines to a company in Hong Kong.
Failure to appear will damage their reputation and credibility at home as well as internationally.
Fair Play: I am sure Zahid is praying very hard that he would not be subpoenaed as one of the seven persons named as possible witnesses.
Otherwise how would the rakyat see him. Certainly not as defender of our national pride.
Versey: In general, a law-abiding citizen will oblige to stand as a witness to assist in an inquiry on receiving a subpoena unless there is some very special reason preventing one from performing such a bounden duty, else it deemed right for people to suspect the called 'witness' may have something to hide.
Swipenter: Ignorance is no defence. His false bravado is shattered.
RealSoldier: Zahid has committed possible contempt of court. The judge in France should book him for that.
We are not living in the Middle Ages. This is the age of globalisation. Someone who swindles money in United States can be caught in Papua New Guinea. We have Interpol.
All these agencies are there to coordinate and facilitate cross-border prosecution. So Najib and Zahid, stop the nonsense comments.
Armageddon: Dear lawyer Brehem, once the warrant of arrest is out, please let us know. We can do a citizen arrest for you.
