EC denial shows it's clearly delusional

YOURSAY 'Wan Ahmad, your arrogance just amazed me. If you have started cleaning up the election rolls from day one, why is it there are still so many glaring discrepancies?'

EC says poll respondents may be just ignorant

Kee Thuan Chye: The biggest revelation - and letdown - in this response by Election Commission deputy chief Wan Ahmad Wan Omar is his arrogance.

In this day and age, it is surprising that officials entrusted with an important job still speak like this.

He is talking down to the people. He is dismissing the responses of people who have given their opinion in a survey that is related to his work as an Election Commission (EC) official.

For showing such an attitude, he will earn more scorn. May BN save his soul.

Whatsup: Just by looking at the number of voters in each constituency throughout the country boggles one's mind how this reflects a true voice of the rakyat in any election.

After so many elections, ignorant and trusting I was and so were many rakyat, the chart on BN and opposition-held constituencies shown recently is permanently etched in my mind how EC has transgressed democratic principles in favour of the ruling party.

Adding to this, the dubious electoral roll, foreigners as voters, and the partisan EC's stand only show the present BN government does not represent the majority voice of rakyat and it is illegitimate.

Wan Ahmad, just shut up and step down. The rakyat are not dumb like before.

Gobsmacked!: Wan Ahmad, your arrogance just amazed me. If you have started cleaning up the election rolls from day one, why is it there are still so many glaring discrepancies?

In addition, researcher Dr Ong Kian Ming stated that he had highlighted the errors to the EC as far back as 2003 and nothing was done about it. So what happened to the clean up "since day one"?

First your boss the chairperson said the election roll is the cleanest in the world . Then you said the clean-up has started since day one, and to this day there are still so many discrepancies.

The worst thing is you are in a state of denial. Others are wrong, you are right. The public will never have confidence in the electoral roll until you and your boss step down. You are completely lacking in objectivity and professionalism.

Worse still, you are too proud to admit that you have done a lousy job all these years. I am sorry, but truth has to be told. I am not accusing you of being in collusion with Umno but just incompetent.

Quigonbond: I am relieved Wan Ahmad is of the view that perception is disassociated from reality.

It means in reality, PM Najib Razak's approval rating may well be way below 50 percent, since in that survey, the respondents probably didn't know what they were talking about as well.

Anonymous #10199081: The government makes the mistake of appointing non-technical persons to head the EC drawn from the less talented retirees in the civil service.

These are persons who lacked objectively and drive to rectify flaws in the electoral process and to find ways and means to improve the system that may be required from time to time.

Uppermost in their mind is to stay as long as possible in their position by pandering to the needs of their political master.

There is a need in the future to appoint a professionally qualified person with a strong academic background in political economics to micro-manage the electoral process.

A functional electoral process free from manipulation will ensure a properly elected government within the framework of the federal constitution and should benefit all political parties who are prepared to contest the election under the principle of government by the people for the people.

Anonymous_3f4a: Of course, nobody knows what's going on with the electoral system, only the high officials of the EC know.

Likewise, nobody knows the concepts and principles of parliamentary democracy and the independence of the EC, only the high officials of the EC know. Nobody knows what kind of results the current state of electoral system are going to yield, only the high officials of the EC know.

This is exactly the state of affairs currently facing the electoral system. The EC has been operating in secrecy until public concerns and queries are raised.

The EC can't deny the negative public perceptions to which the high officials replied, 'perceptions are not reality'. But in politics, perception is everything.

Wan Ahmad has conveniently forgotten that the respondents of the Merdeka Centre polls are EC's clienteles.

If their clienteles are not confident in the EC, what business have they got to continue in office? Wan Ahmad's denial shows how seriously delusional he is.

Telestai!: Wan Ahmad reminds me of a joke about a man who received a call from his wife while he was driving on a freeway.

His wife asked him to get home soon as the radio reported a crazy person driving on the wrong side of the freeway.

He told her there were actually several people driving on the wrong side and they were all very rude - honking and flashing their headlights at him.
