Expect another term in opposition for Teng

YOURSAY 'Teng, do you expect to be the next CM of Penang? Dream on. The people of Penang know Guan Eng can do a better job than Gerakan.'

Penang Gerakan: Thank your stars Guan Eng is CM

your say Gobsmacked!: I was there as a young boy at the Esplanade in Penang on the eve of the general election in May 1969. There was so much hope and joy when Gerakan kicked out the Alliance of Umno, MCA and MIC.

But sad to say, the hope was never realised. Gerakan went over to the other side and turned out to be little better than MCA.

On the other hand, DAP took over the government of Penang together with its partners in Pakatan and what a difference it has made.

As Gerakan's former president Lim Keng Yaik had predicted in 2008, Gerakan has lost Penang forever. And the same prediction was also made by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad. They are both right.

So Penang BN chief Dr Teng Hock Nan, please don't waste everybody's time, leave politics for good.

Anonymous #18452573: Instead of fighting over issues that benefit the rakyat, Teng goes after Penang CM Lim Guan Eng, the darling of Penang.

If anyone thought of giving Gerakan a few votes in the hope that they might join Pakatan, they can forget it. From the way they sound, they can't be anything but a lackey of Umno.

Chuath: They said that same about former Singapore premier and strongman Lee Kuan Yew and look at where Singapore is now - way, way ahead of us in terms of per capita earning and GDP and the citizens don't live in fear of crime like us.

There are times when one must stand tall and be a dictator when trying to change the direction of a state or country.

It may be a bad thing to sway with the wind and use emotions and fear rather than facts to persuade, as Gerakan with BN have so clearly demonstrated.

Clever Voter: Principled leadership is what I will describe LGE (Lim Guan Eng) management style, and with the sort of sometimes unreasonable people, he has the right to be firm.

Given the awful legacies he inherited, lousy support from the federal government and rent-seeking mentality among the people he had to deal with, it is remarkable his government has done very well.

Both Gerakan and MCA have a choice of either providing effective check and control or retire peacefully. No one, sad to say, will listen to the rubbish that have been uttered by them.

Onyourtoes: If you want to accuse the CM of Penang, you owe it to yourself to accuse him in specific terms and not do so in sweeping statements.

If you can show the decisions made by the CM benefit him and his family personally, you are welcome to disclose them.

Being dictatorial as accused by you is subjective. I would take it that he is confident and self-assured, knowing that the decisions that he has made are for the public interests.

Again, you are welcome to disclose them if you can prove that he has done things that benefit himself.

Anonymous #19098644: During the BN rule they almost bankrupted the Seberang Perai Municipality. They built almost no low-cost housing between 2000 and 2008. They allowed the Taman Manggis ground to breed mosquitos.

Mahathir called Georgetown the "rubbish bin of the Orient" The state's debt jumped to RM670 million. Georgetown was dying and hollowing up with more than 200 abandoned houses.

Umno was charging fees for supporting tenders. Zero funding was given to the Islamic, Chinese, Indian and mission schools. Churches and temples couldn't get approvals.

Today Penang has the highest investment, rated the best city in Malaysia to live in, the debt is down to RM32 million, people are flocking in from all over Malaysia to buy homes here.

George Town is bustling with activities. Temples, schools and churches are getting funding from the state.

Opportunities are given to all races to tender for projects. The only ones suffering are the Umno clowns and their running dogs, Gerakan and MCA.

Truth Unfold: It just goes to show that Teng has no other offering in his coffers for the 55th Penang Gerakan delegates conference.

What a pity, he has run out of ideas. The people of Penang know who are parasites and yesmen of BN, who need Umno to tell them how to run the state.

Anonymous 11: Teng, do you expect to be the next CM of Penang? Dream on.

The Gerakan conference had only 200 delegates. You know, when Guan Eng walked into the Pay Fong Hall in Malacca, thousands gave him a standing ovation and cheered non-stop for five minutes until he gestured them to stop.

The people of Penang know Guan Eng can do a better job than Gerakan. Don't be jealous. Be a gentleman and appreciate what is done for the poor.

Anonymous #59817899: The rakyat can judge the government of Penang better and does not need Gerakan to tell them.

Gerakan should show and tell the rakyat what its strengths are. We do not like to see Gerakan attempting to rise to power by discrediting others.
