Making a 'MACCkery' out of anti-graft agency

YOURSAY ‘Bear in mind the cockroach theory - if you can find one cockroach, there are bound to be plenty hidden behind the closets.'

Datuk-ship deferred for 'errant' Pahang MACC chief

your say Rubystar_4037: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Corruption (MACC) is the sole anti-corruption agency of Malaysia and all its staff must be above board and be squeaky clean.

Even if there is a whiff of misconduct, the errant staff member should be suspended pending investigation. Moh Samsuddin Yusof has been sanctioned twice and is facing a third probe, and yet he still remains the Pahang MACC chief.

Bear in mind the cockroach theory, if you can find one cockroach, there are bound to be plenty hidden behind the closets.

How can Pahang MACC operate when its chief is under a cloud of suspicion. So it seems there is no political will for the PM to weed out corruption in this country. Indeed, there is no hope while BN is still the government of the day.

Ferdtan: Good work Malaysiakini . It shows how relevant the online portal has become where it put the government agencies into an embarrassing defence over their indefensible ‘mistake'.

The watchdog role, by right, should be the duty of the mainstream media with their means and huge resources.

Let us not forget that Moh Samsudin was the Selangor MACC director when DAP's Teoh Beng Hock was found dead at its premises.

How much knowledge and involvement did he have with the death of Teoh that was not revealed? Only his state deputy director, Hishamuddin Hashim, was implicated in the case.

This shows that MACC puts loyalty to the government above its duty. And it proves that ‘crime' committed on behalf of the government pays in the end.

Whatsup: This group of clowns makes a 'MACCkery' out of the reasons why this anti-corruption agency was set up in the first place. Totally lacking in integrity and justice, not to mention abetment of crimes by those in power. Cry, Malaysia, cry.

Not Confused: This man has obviously been under suspicion for wrongdoing for some time and yet he is not suspended or seriously investigated it seems, but just "demoted" to become Pahang MACC chief. Is it any wonder that there is zero confidence in anything that the MACC does?

The entire organisation needs to be fired and its staff re-hired only after some serious vetting. The organisation must also report directly to Parliament and not the PM.

Appum: It looks like Malaysiakini is doing a better job than MACC itself. What does all this kind of negligent vetting say about the MACC? Mana (M) Ada (A) Competensi (C) dan Capabiliti (C)?

Worse still, the Public Services Commission secretary tells Malaysiakini that he and his top officers are in Sabah and Sarawak and wait till he comes back to give a statement. Wasn't he taught that we have great communications today - emails, telephones, teleconferencing?

You mean if the Twin Towers were on fire and the fire chief is in Sabah or Sarawak, would he tell his staff to wait for him to come back next week to deal with it? That's the type of top officials we have in the government. We have to change.

Onyourtoes: I think we are missing the forest for the trees here; since when are titles awarded based on characters, contributions and sacrifice?

In Malaysia, if you are businessmen or corporate persons of certain net worth, you are a ‘tan sri'. If you are of lesser net worth, you are datuk, dato, dato wira or dato seri.

Did they ever ask how one obtained his/her wealth? Those directors among the errant gold traders could be dato and tan sri, too.

Almost 100 percent of the senior government servants are tan sri, datuk, dato, dato seri, dato wira as if no one else other than senior government servants are contributing to this country's progress.

And then retired politicians, depending again on position held before retirement were given tun, tan sri, etc, as if positions were synonym with accomplishments. Didn't we see a tun charged in court recently?

Abasir: If exemplary conduct both in public and private were to be the chief criteria for awarding honors, about 80 percent of those strutting around with titles will be title-less...

Kolopilah: I met this datuk a few times in Taman Melawati.

During the two occasions we met, he seemed to know almost everybody there, rubbing shoulders with politicians, other datuks, tan sris, consultants, bigwigs, and according to him, he was one of the prime movers of some Umno political pressure groups somewhere in Malacca.

His actions and brash words that he used triggered my curiosity. Upon scrutiny by our 'sleuths', we found out that he's not a datuk, just a mere 'latuk'!

GXFC: Many years ago, there was a datuk waiting to get his medicine at a general hospital.

He said when the dispensary assistant called out ‘datuk' for him to collect his medicine - she must have assumed that there was only one datuk present - at least six to eight individuals stood up.
