Whatever his flaws, Guan Eng still a formidable leader

YOURSAY 'Lim Guan Eng is firm and decisive and not easily swayed, but that should not be interpreted as arrogant or dictatorial.'

From Kajang prison to 28th floor of Komtar

your say Anonymous #25595435: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is not arrogant or dictatorial or a ‘tokong' (deity). To be a good leader, you have to lead with decisiveness and firmness so that you won't be easily swayed by people around you.

If a leader cannot make decisions but depend on others then he is only a puppet and he will be no different from the former CM who wasted Penang of 18 years.

But in the short five years, with his strong management ability, Lim had brought Penang back into international limelight so much so it has been identified by Yahoo as the fourth most livable place in the world.

He is firm but that should not be interpreted as arrogant or dictatorial. It's not easy to be a good leader and yet earn the respect and love of his people but Lim has succeeded in doing just that.

Just look at how he is being swarmed by the rakyat wherever he goes and this can be seen not only in Penang.

*Anonymous_39d1: Lim cannot be flawless, but in his five years as CM he has definitely outperformed former Penang CM Koh Tsu Koon, who was in the office for 18 years.

Koh is weak and had no guts to speak up against all the bad things that BN did. His picture was torn by Umno thugs and yet he said nothing.

The choice is clear; Lim will remain as our CM for the next term.

Anonymous #69337042: By now the people already know the political leaders who are truly and selflessly working for the well-being of the people as against those who are self-serving, corrupt, incompetent, racist, and practice religious bigotry.

And those who shamelessly abuse their power to monopolise the mainstream media to lie, deceive, mislead, cheat and manipulate the people.

Who audaciously made use of Korean K-pop star Psy to win Chinese votes but lost his face when the latter failed to turn up for the 'yee sang' invitation on stage.

Who sneakily made use of 'Tanda Putera' to stoke racial hatred among 3,000 Felda settlers to win Malay votes but disallowed its public screening to evade a public outcry.

Rahman: Yes, Lim is intoxicated with triumph. As his deputy has correctly described he is cocky, arrogant and condescending.

Who say Lim is straightforward. Certainly not. He beats around the bush. He is now in the hands of Penang rich developers who provide funding to DAP.

No wonder he is cornered to renege on homes for the lower income group. His ‘affordable' homes are in the range of RM400,000 for a 900 sq ft apartment.

Physically, he has grown big and fat due to having better meals as CM. In Kuala Lumpur, he is always seen at expensive Chinese restaurants in five-star hotels. The 28th floor of Komtar makes him feel dizzy and forgets the poor on the ground.

Geronimo: Let's put Lim and PM Najib Razak side by side for comparison and we know, no matter how negatively his detractors feel about Lim, he will always come up tops. Need we say more?

LiarsSlaughter: Either Lim is arrogant or dictatorial, or he is a ‘tokong' in fighting corruption and upholding justice and good governance.

No one can stop him from doing the above. Not even his deputy can make him change his stand.

Habib: Lim, the rakyat will give full support to Pakatan Rakyat as long as Pakatan is goal oriented and principle centred to make Malaysia a better place for all.

As you had said, we have the same goals and purpose. We are driven by our opposition to racism and corruption.

May I humbly suggest, besides building a people-fearing government, please build a god-fearing government to unite all the races in our beloved country.

Anonymous #06659895: If we had an independent police, independent attorney-general and an independent Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the majority of the Umno-BN top brass would be in jail by now.

Amalgam: United States president Abraham Lincoln said, "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power."

Yes, Lim Guan Eng is a good leader and much respected, but he needs time to deliver his promises too.

However, he is also human with human weakness and failings. Therefore, do not overpraise the man yet - at least not in his lifetime. Let time decide.

Whatever, his faults and failings and his strong points, we need all the good men and women we can harness for the opposition cause, and that is to be rid of a corrupt Umno in GE13.
