MCA rep breaks ranks to take oath as Johor exco member
Cala:
Pulai Sebatang state assemblyperson Tee Siew Kiong of MCA must beware of ostracism within party. If we assume that the Johor palace has indeed made a request for Tee to be included in the state exco, this request may be difficult to turn down.
Tee is now caught in a dilemma; by accepting the offer he is clearly contravening the party's rule, but by not accepting, he is inviting the wrath of the sultan.
To me, there is a middle path yet to be explored. Tee, on his own, could resign from MCA maybe in three months' time, and continue with his exco post as an Independent state representative.
If he fails to do so, he is certain to invite ostracism in the party.
iBest: The Sultan of Johor is still the wisest of the royalty in being the first to insist on at least one Chinese representative in the Johor state assembly.
FellowMalaysian: MCA chief Chua Soi Lek mentioned Tee's appointment in the state exco came about because the Johor sultan had decreed it, even though MCA has passed an earlier resolution not to take up any government positions.
By making such an order, isn't the sultan meddling into party politics which, as the royal guardian, he should not?
And what were the criteria in choosing Tee of MCA rather than Lau Chin Hoon of Gerakan who won the Pemanis state seat? If the sultan is seeking Chinese representation, Lau should also be included in the state exco.
Hateyou: This is another slap on MCA's face. Now it's confirmed and everyone knows that this party is without backbone and principles.
Just wait and see, more of their members will take up government posts. This is another reason why MCA did badly in the GE13. How to support a party that's without principles?
Shanandoah: What now, Chua Soi Lek? Sack Tee from MCA or resign now. You have no other choice.
There are others who may accept cabinet posts. Then you will truly be in a fix. Next round, there will be no MCA to talk about.
Odin: For some politicians, power, prestige, position and pecuniary gains are hard to resist.
Anonymous_5fb: As for the MCA or Gerakan kind of Chinese representing the community, I would say, better no representation at all.
To me, they are being placed in the cabinet and excos so that they can take the blame if government policies are not fair to, in this case, the Chinese. I'd rather no representation of non-Malays at all so that we can see how fair Umno is to all races.
The rakyat is not so naive as those in Umno-BN, that all races must be represented in the cabinet or exco.
What the rakyat want to see is fairness in policies of the governments, at state or federal level, not whether such and such a race is represented or not.
Subway: This is expected by everyone. What Chua Soi Lek said earlier was to threaten the Chinese community and he wants them to beg him to reverse his decision to decline any government posts.
In fact, the Chinese don't really care if there is no MCA representative in the government. We are okay if the position is held by a Malay or Indian. Who needs MCA?
ABU_sed!!: Why would MCA want any seat since the prime minister had already said the Chinese had abandoned BN?
If the sultan wants Chinese representation, perhaps Lim Kit Siang of DAP will be more representative of the Chinese community view in Johor?
Cks: Soi Lek is merely finding an excuse to backpedal after threatening the Chinese for their votes. This is all sandiwara (act). The ultimate objective is to get his son appointed as a minister.
Platform_sinking: Tee has no principle, no self-respect. It's a very dishonourable and shameless act to accept the position. In this case, I support Soi Lek, who is a man of his words. Refuse all positions. Do not support false gestures and be the fall guy.
Chee Hoe Siew: As I have suspected, MCA is using sultan's order as a shield to justify taking up the exco post. MCA, have you no shame at all?
Fairplayer: MCA have been serving itself for far too long. They also employed the same tricky tactics as their big brother Umno, but they failed to protect and serve the people who pushed them to positions of power.
They deserve what they got at GE13. As long as as they continue to kowtow to racist Umno, they will continue to betray their own people and their supporters.
Mark my words - unless they do a total revamp, and fear no evil (aka Umno), they are useless, even to themselves.
Dood: More proof that MCA members are nothing but for show and to prop up their Umno-BN masters when need be.
Even their party president and council are apparently helpless to stop their own party members from defying their pledge. Now, they need to expel this errant member if they hope to salvage whatever little dignity they have left.
Senior: Oops, Tee won in a Malay majority seat - that's means he has to follow whatever Umno says. He is just another rubber stamp.
