Topple the gov't, yes, but through legal means

YOURSAY ‘Topple the government? Definitely yes, but through a clean and democratic process. Not through illegal means.'

Pakatan: We are not involved in 'topple gov't rally'

your say Kilgore: I don't come by my position easily. I'm a heartbeat away from taking to the streets. But I think you could be underestimating the opposition gains, and the election controversies have not played out yet.

Yes, some Malaysians have been pressuring the government for years, but nowhere near the current numbers. With the hold the government have over the military, police, and civil service, I worry about potential violence, but also the potential disfunctionality of the county's entire system if the changeover doesn't happen with a degree of civility.

I think it's possible to blow the advances that have been made, and that taking to the streets without a solid strategy, could be playing into their hands.

The feeling everybody here has, is passion and empowerment, at a level rarely seen, which is great and necessary for a democracy to thrive. If it keeps up, change will come.

Keeping those feelings rational and focused will result in the least amount of damage to the people and the economy. Don't let up!

AnakMalaysia: Let the Pakatan Rakyat's leadership do their work, please don't hijack the 505 rallies. Sincerity, integrity, leadership and maturity are needed in this time of intense stress and pressure. Act maturely, not emotionally.

Goh Pick Ting: Topple the government? Definitely yes, but through a clean and democratic process. Not through illegal means. We cannot do what we detest. Don't be a pot calling the kettle black.

Adsertor: Our constitution, our king and our democracy are sacred. To overthrow the government is to jettison these, which are not negotiable.

That said, the government run by BN does not have the mandate of the people to rule. It must be step down.

AkuMiskin: Thank god, I was just about to have my doubts on Pakatan. With street rally mentality, there is no way you can govern the country.

We need peace to keep going. I'm sure there are other ways, with the peoples' support you can achieve the aim.

Headhunter: Malaysians generally will only subscribe to topple the government through the ballot box. But the call by those who call to topple the government goes to show how angry the people are against the BN and the Election Commission (EC) which cheated to win.

At another level, I think it would be a good idea for Pakatan to use their ‘Blackout 505' rallies to call for unity and multiracialism.

This should resonate with the rakyat and many will come out in full force to give a message to Najib that we do not subscribe to Umno's use of race and religion to force us into submission. It will put fear into Umno and their goons to stop such nonsense.

Change is good: Gather the evidence and take it to court.

MockingYou: Anwar, I sure you're smart enough to know that rallies can be hijacked and agents provocateurs are everywhere.

Further, BN blames you for everything you didn't do, so your right-hand man Azmin Ali is correct, please stop the rallies and focus on getting the job of winning GE14 done.

Haveagreatday: It's good that Pakatan has set the record straight. I have rooted for change till my voice is gone and I'm still rooting for change.

Yet, to call for toppling the elected government, even if it's disputed whether elections are really free and fair, is to invite harsh repression by the powers-that-be.

Mahashitla: The majority of the rakyat is against toppling the government through undemocratic means and street demonstrations. We will only topple the government through democratic means, which is through the process of a free and fair election.

Too many frauds and unfair means were committed by BN and the EC is seen to be closing both eyes. Hence, calling for the mother of all rallies is not unreasonable.

Human Being: The word "topple" is just semantic. The people cannot tolerate any parties that commit fraud. They must go.

Isn't your one single vote against the present government is a step towards toppling the regime? What's wrong with ‘toppling' the government as long it is ethical?

Harapanbaru: It appears that the Dark Lords still hold sway over at least 40 percent of the population. People do get the government they deserve.

When enough Malaysians emerge from the under the tempurung (shell) of race and religion, then we may at last deserve a fair and just government.

In any case, rules exist to be broken - and illegitimate governments deserve toppling, although the most effective means might be collective indifference to the BN regime. Don't attend any event they organise. Don't even send reporters to cover their press conferences.

Sunnyd: Brains will always triumph over brawn. That is unless you you have both. Do you? Too many Malaysians are fat and comfortable. Nobody is going to sit in the hot sun minus their air conditioners like in the Arab Spring.

We don't have to worry about an uprising. Uprisings only occur when people have their backs against the wall. We have too many roti canai, char keow teow and nasi lemak around to enjoy.
