Tanda Putera - using our tax money to sow racism

YOURSAY 'I was also there, inside the compound of Selangor MB's house that day. There was no way for a Chinese to enter the compound then, let alone to urinate there.'

Urinating scene 'fictional', says May 13 witness

your say Ferdtan: What is the BN government doing during the month of Merdeka and Malaysia Day?

On one hand, they allowed the controversial film 'Tanda Putera' to be screened on Aug 29 - two days before Merdeka celebration. This was in spite of the ban before the 13th general election that the movie was not suitable for the general public. The BN cabinet's words, orders and promises cannot be trusted.

Then, on the other hand, they want us to show our loyalty by flying Malaysian flags? And to add insult to injury, Communication and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek ordered national anthem to be played in over 700 cinemas nationwide from Aug 28 to Sept 3.

So shall we stand proudly when the national anthem is played in cinemas when we know that the national pride has been hijacked for Umno politics?

My4Hope: "I don't know YB (Lim Kit Siang) personally but as a Muslim, if you know an untruth is being spread around to affect someone's dignity, you should stand firm," said May 13 witness Ahmad Habib.

This is genuine Muslim who makes Islam a beautiful belief, not those who politicise the religion for evil interest.

Slumdog: Most Malaysians will thank Ahmad Habib for speaking the truth. He has more honesty and integrity than all the Umno ministers and spin-doctors put together.

Unfortunately 'Tanda Putera' achieved its objective to influence pro-Umno voters when it was screened to "selected" audiences prior to GE13. In the process, it tarnished the good name of DAP leader Lim Kit Siang.

Protests of innocence by him fell on the deaf ears of director Shuhaimi Baba, no doubt an Umno stooge, who claimed that her film was based, I would say, on non-existent historical documents and witness interviews.

Aries46: With Ahmad Habib's revelation and the truth as has been told by others it is evident that the tale of the Chinese urinating on the flag pole which Shuhaimi Baba claims to be a historical fact is nothing more than a figment of her own imagination made up with malicious intend to portray the Chinese as the aggressors to please her sponsors.

Suhuaimi's weird claim is something that has been unheard of in all these years even by those who had witnessed the May 13 incident.

Unless she can support her claim by producing the historical documents that she claims to be privy to, 'Tanda Putera' ought to be given a miss and dismissed as mere fiction not worth the celluloid it is filmed on.

Harimau Kelantan: I was also there, inside the compound of Selangor MB's house that day (I was then a first-year Engineering student, Institut Teknologi Mara).

There was no way for a Chinese to enter the compound then, let alone to urinate there. The scene was complete rubbish and a big fat lie.

Geronimo: Let's look at it this way. When the riot broke out from the MB's residence in the evening of May 13, the first casualty was a Chinese boy who worked with a coffee shop nearby, delivering drinks to the people without realising that he soon would be killed.

With the crowd in such a frenzy, I can't imagine Kit Siang strolling into the MB's residence compound to urinate at the flagpole.

If they could killed the coffee shop boy, there is simply no way Kit Siang would have survived. They would have made mince meat out of him within seconds.

Mohamad Abdul Malik: I was 17 years old and was in Kuala Lumpur in 1969. The late Harun Idris' house was heavily guarded and I doubt any Chinese youth would have come out alive just being in the vicinity.

Opah: The saddest thing to me is that Malaysian taxpayers fully funded this propaganda film. Shuhaimi does not care two hoots about what happens next, she's already banked in the profits from the production.

This is Umno in action, using taxpayers' money to sow racism so as to divide and rule Malaysia.

LogicalMalaysian: If the movie is not to incite, then why the depiction of the urinating scene? Suhaimi Baba is trying to be cheeky. With the government's funding of the movie, what else one deduce from such scenes?

If what Tunku Abdul Rahman had said is to be believed, then Abdul Razak Hussein and the then upheaval in Umno leading to a power struggle are the excuses used to incite the May 13.

Tunku is on record that he was not in favour of issuing the permit for the public display as passions and tensions were running high and had told Abdul Razak not to issue the permit. The irony is Abdul Razak had agreed to comply but then, according to Tunku, had stabbed his back by issuing the permit. Tunku was devastated.

That the May 13 happened in such mired circumstances is a blot on this nation. If the cheeky Suhaimi is talking about history and facts, how on earth could she have missed the Tunku's point of views as he was very much a central figure during those black days and was still the PM?

Apa Ini?: I think most right-thinking Malaysians already know the truth about May 13. If not, this film will soon prompt them to discuss the truth and Suhaimi then has done Malaysians a favour.

Many, like Ahmad Habib, are witness to the truth and this time round, some 40 plus years on, we are ready to listen and to speak the truth. Or are we?
