VOXPOP 'Wouldn't Umno qualify as an organised criminal group? I understand they are not that organised, but what about criminal...?'

Gov't moots 15 years' jail for trampling on Jalur Gemilang

vox populi small thumbnailSarajun Hoda: The Malaysian government has gone berserk. How can they amend or make such laws with 46 percent of the popular votes? This is not democracy.

$$$$$$$$$: During a protest if you drop the Jalur Gemilang and not pick it up before the authorities see you, you could be charged with defacing the flag on the road.

Try not to use the flag to make it into pants and definitely don't paint it on your face.

Hold Awam Accountable: Wouldn't Umno qualify as an organised criminal group? All right, I understand they are not that organised, but what about criminal...?

CiViC: Going strictly by the amendments, most Umno leaders would be in jail already.

Milky Way: Yes CiVic is right. To me it is a law that is laid out to protect Umno-BN rather than to protect the nation.

Frankly, if the nation is governed fairly and justly, there won't be anyone trying fly another flag. These people just want to create laws to silence the people's voice.

DevilsSlaughter: Tyrants, gangsters, devils and Satan rule by using force and fear to gain respect from the rakyat. Whereas a rakyat-loving administration gains its respect from its fellow rakyat from their loving hearts.

This is the difference between the people's government and the Satan's government.

Senior citizen: US President Barack Obama, I am sure, must be aware of all this. I hope he does not decide to cancel his visit as he too might be arrested if he happens to drop a miniature Malaysian flag.

Honestly we are in a joke of a country made up of imbeciles who know not what is justice or fair play or any sense of decency.

Pakatan Rakyat, please abstain from parliament completely. Let BN have parliament to themselves. Let them shout and scream among themselves. The Malaysian parliament has now become an exclusive Umno club.

When PM Najib Rakyat took over the helm in 2009, he abolished the ISA. Four years later, he paved the way for the return of the right-wing faction in the his party.

From now on, the right-wing in Umno is in charge.

Appum: The atmosphere is certainly getting very repressive. The ultimate plan is to suffocate any form of opposition. Welcome to the world's best democracy.

Ian2003: I'm going to miss Zunar's cartoons.

Uthaya appears in court, surrounded by prison guards

Paul Warren: Of course, they have to guard Human Rights Party leader P Uthayakumar like that. In fact, he should have been chained with an iron ball on his foot like what you might see in one of those 'Gladiator' movies.

Now that Chin Peng is dead and Malaysia's No 1 enemy is no more, we need the next No 1 enemy, no? Uthayakumar fits the bill, does he not?

And best of all, since we could not do it with Chin Peng, at least with this one, we have got him chained and locked down. Hooray.

Shah54: It's a very serious allegation that he is being roughly handled by the prison authorities. This should not happen in the prison cell. If anything happens to him, the prison authorities and the Malaysian government should be held responsible.

Ir Dr: Waythamoorthy did not even turn up in court to fight for his brother. How can he claim to be fighting for the rights of the Indian community?

2zzzxxx: When Umno is on your case then this is the treatment you get. The prison department, police and courts are all under Umno's command.

MatrixLYN: It's not like Uthayakumar is going to run away. He is not a hardcore violent criminal, but a mere political prisoner. It's Umno wanting to show who's the 'tuan' here.

Star Wars: Dear friends, the prison guards were there to do their job. Why lash out at them?

Anyway the mere fact that six guards were assigned to guard Uthaya shows how powerful this man is. If you are nobody they only assign one guard. So why complain?

As far as I know, there are many judges in Kuala Lumpur courts who are fond of Uthaya and they will ensure that Uthaya is not ill-treated while in detention and one such person is the deputy registrar Nooraini Yusof.

Oriole: In Malaysia, the stature and greatness of a person may be measured by how much security and attention is given to him or her. The greater the person, the more the attention.
