Islam is not under siege, Umno is

YOURSAY 'There is no doubt that the court ruling is now causing more confusion to both Muslims and Christians alike. We have self-serving Umno to thank for it.'

Islam not under siege, but portrayed so by court

your say, YoursayAntoine Ross Deliones: If the concern is really that the Bahasa Malaysia section of Catholic weekly The Herald can be used to sway the faith of Muslim Malaysians, would it not be more urgent or sensible to ban them from having access to the Internet (where there are many ‘dangerous' ideas lurking out there) as well as any contact with the outside world and stop sending Muslim students to study in countries like the United States where the chance of exposure to Christianity is definitely a thousand or a million times higher than the chance of The Herald being read by a Malaysian Muslim?

My question is merely a rhetorical one. Of course, I am not advocating banning Muslim Malaysians from accessing the Internet or going for overseas studies.

Victim: Everyone should emulate the wisdom of professor Abdul Aziz Bari. So far there is not a single iota of evidence that Christians using ‘Allah' would confuse and convert Muslims. Show proof.

Even if there is, it's the Islamic authorities job to educate and ‘unconfuse' the Muslims, otherwise they are not doing their job. It's not the Christians' fault. Just ban Muslims from reading The Herald.

Headhunter: There is no doubt that the court ruling is now causing more confusion to both Muslims and Christians alike.

Not only that but it is also causing racial and religious division as well. We certainly have not seen the end of it. We have self-serving Umno to thank for it.

Orealis: This is the reason Umno is unfit to rule. They think the world only existed for one country called Malaysia and they can do whatever they like with religion and race.

The fact is, the world is a lot bigger and Umno is still living in their little cave arguing about supremacy over religion and race. Indeed, the religion does not belong to Umno alone.

Jeremy Ng: Islam is definitely not under siege nor will it ever be in Malaysia. This is a plot by politicians to shore up support from a particular race.

And it is sickening to have our judiciary reinforcing and endorsing such a game plan. In so doing, it has not only distorted the constitution but created religious supremacy and disharmony.

This will further result in racial polarisation and put 1Malaysia concept further in the garbage bin.

Spinnot: Islam is not under siege, Umno Baru is - after losing two-thirds majority in 2008 and the popular vote in 2013.

Isma fine with Christian praying in Allah's name

Proarte: Malay Muslims are being ridiculed the world over because of the irrational antics of Umno, PAS and Muslim NGOs who claim to speak on behalf of Islam.

This 'Allah' row has exposed the moral abyss which our Islamic leaders are in. There is no regard for logic, historical fact, truth or decency. Every statement has a political angle to it to give the impression that Umno and PAS are uncompromising 'defenders of Islam'. In the process, they have laid bare their stupidity, lies and ignorance over Islamic matters.

There is a silver lining though in this whole charade. Malays who bother to engage their brains will realise they are mere pawns in a Malay political game of one upmanship which uses racial and Islamic bigotry as its modus operandi.

It is this realisation which will free the Malays from the shackles of racial and religious politics. Even a child will question the logic of banning the word 'Allah' in The Herald but then allow for its use in East Malaysia and in the Malay Bible.

Tehachapi: The ferocity at which Umno and its ultra-nationalist supporters are destroying the foundations of the nation is alarming. The spirit of unity in diversity, tolerance and mutual respect is all but dead.

By destroying the foundation of the nation, these Malays must know that they are in effect destroying their own future. Even if all the non-Malays are gone, there will still be infighting among the different sub-groups within the Malay community.

Chinese and Indians have contributed much to the development of this country and they are important links to India and China. By oppressing Chinese and Indians, Malaysia will be perceived as an unattractive place to invest and do business by these two emerging superpowers.

Without lasting peace and racial harmony, Malaysia will go nowhere, but decline further. It is totally a waste of time to devote so much energy and resources to bring about uniformity. It is not uniformity, but development of capabilities that matters.

LogicalMalaysian: I have told my children to stop singing the Selangor anthem because it contains the "prohibited" (sorry, I can't even mention the word) word. You continue pushing us, this is what you will get.

By the way Isma deputy president Aminuddin Yahaya, when are you going to change the word from ‘Tuhan' to the prohibited word in our national anthem.

What about the Rukunegara's first principle, "Kepercayaan kepada Tuhan"? Isn't this against your Islamic principle and credentials?

Peacemaker: Aminuddin, what a turnaround. Did you get a revelation last night?

He was the man who told Christians who wanted to worship God by addressing Him "Allah Taala" to emigrate. This shows you have no brains, no principles and are merely a political lapdog.

YHY: "We want to do it (cow slaughter), who cares? What is the percentage of the Indian community? Only one or two percent," said Aminuddin.

One measure of the level of culture and civilisation attained by a society is the way it protects and stands up for the sector of the society that is too weak or disadvantaged to defend itself.

Heavenly King: Aminuddin is whipping up racial and religious emotions and sowing seeds of disharmony. Indeed, the police should arrest him for sedition.

Ipohcrite: And in Isma's wisdom, who, pray tell in God's name, reads The Herald?

And by Isma's reasoning, it accepts that Muslim Malaysians, when in another country where Muslims are not the majority, it is okay for Muslim Malaysians to be bullied, discriminated against and have their rights trampled on?
