YOURSAY ‘It is not new data, only new conclusion on week-old data.’

New data points to hijack, search continues

Aries46: Initially it was speculated that MH370 had either malfunctioned and crashed into the sea, or exploded in mid air due to sabotage by unknown persons, or hijacked and flown to an unknown destination or crashed into the ocean.

PM Najib Razak now contends that based on satellite data the plane was diverted by unknown persons to the northern corridor and the search area having to be moved to two new corridors covering an even wider area.

For the agonised families of the passengers in MH370, it looks like after seven days of waiting, they are in no better position to ascertain the fate of their loved ones and the larger the search corridors gets, the more remote the chances of finding the missing plane.

Kanasai: "Despite media reports that the plane was hijacked, I wish to be very clear, we are still investigating all possibilities as what caused MH370 to deviate from its original flight path," says Najib.

What is he talking about? Did he mean that the deviation is under his or his government instruction? If not the plane was not hijacked, then what was it?

Mytake: Wasn't it known five or six days ago that the plane turned back? No action was taken and instead resources were deployed in the wrong sea.

If the plane had crashed around the Indian Ocean, by now all debris would have been washed further away. Hopefully, the plane had landed somewhere and the people are still alive...

Let’s pray.

Awakened: It takes Malaysia eight days to confirm that the plane actually lost contact at 8.11am rather than 2.40am.

The information that the plane turned westward was nothing new but detected by the Malaysian military radar. This information was denied on the second day and then confirmed again on the third day by the military.

The focus to search for missing plane in South China Sea is a futile effort. This radar and satellite information should have been analysed by experts and passed on to the relevant teams on the second day or latest on the third day so that the focus on the location of the search can be at Andaman or Indian oceans.

We have wasted five to six days of futile search at the wrong place. Is it a cover up or sheer incompetence? We hope that the plane landed somewhere and not crashed into the oceans or at uninhabited forest.

The authorities owed the families of the victims the correct information.

Lim Chong Leong: It is not new data, only new conclusion on week-old data. The data had been there since the plane disappeared and unless the plane has resurfaced, there is no new data.

What the authorities have done with the week-old data is they had lived in denial of all the possibilities and only offered denial after denial with their usual "no evidence" reply.

The evidence was there in front of them and under their nose but they just refused to interpret it properly. So it is delay on their part and they cannot con the public by saying there is new data and therefore we are now searching somewhere else.

Odin: Jagjit Singh, will you be so kind as to inform your boss Najib that journalists are doing a tough job to earn an honest, decent living.

They are often put in a position where they cannot, for ethical reason, defend themselves. To make them wait and wait, especially in a jam-packed room, is just not on. It suggests that you have a low regard of them.

And I put it to you that Najib is not going to take questions for no reason other than that he is totally incapable of providing any believable, credible, factual answers.

I further put it to you that his intention of holding the so-called press conference (PC) is only to show that he is on top of things, whereas he is anything but.

The PC is totally unnecessary; all that need be done is for the statement he will be making to be issued as a press release.

Now, you are an official in the Information Department. Do you know what ‘press conference' means?

Louis: To be precise, Najib released a press statement, not gave a press conference.

Negarawan: If the Malaysian government had released the military radar information immediately and not a few days later, this would have made a huge difference. The search-and-rescue efforts could have been intensified over the Indian Ocean.

Supposing there were any survivors, every minute counts and the long delay of the military radar information from the Malaysian government is not forgivable.

What was Umno trying to hide? Umno thinks that it can cover up and manipulate information as it has been doing for decades?

Umno deserves the highest international condemnation, not only for this sad and shocking MH370 incident, but also for its massive corruption and crime that has resulted in Malaysia going backwards.

Malaysia has become the operation base for international criminals and terrorists because of systemic loopholes, corrupted and incompetent police, military and judiciary, and internal Muslim extremist activities, e.g. Perkasa and Isma, breeding next generation of terrorists.

Dearpixel: Basically, we need better coconuts.
