Karpal got the grand send-off he deserved

YOURSAY 'Karpal needed no royal title or public office to earn the love, respect and affection of the rakyat.'

Over 15,000 bid farewell on Karpal's final journey

Single Malt: People from all walks of life irrespective of race or religion, from near and far have thronged spontaneously to pay their last respects to Sardar Karpal Singh. Why? Isn't that obvious?

Prime Minister Najib Razak, this is what is the real meaning of 1Malaysia is, a Malaysia for all Malaysians. Perhaps this is what you actually intended, but your own party members shot it down as they prefer to be 1Melayu.

Today, I am proud to be Malaysian, thanks to the late Sardar Karpal Singh, truly a Malaysian.

Gerard Lourdesamy: The legend has become immortalised. The nation will not see the likes of him for a very long time and the people have given him a final farewell that not many politicians in Malaysia, including the sanctimonious ones in Umno/BN will ever witness again.

Karpal Singh needed no royal title or public office to earn the love, respect and affection of the rakyat. He transcended race, religion, class and creed, and yesterday the ordinary rakyat - and not the ruling elites whether rulers, princes or potentates with their petty minds, inbred prejudices and extravagant pomposity - have shown true loyalty and respect for a great and illustrious son of Malaysia.

He will forever be remembered in our hearts and minds. RIP Tiger of Jelutong.

Saddened: Karpal Singh, you deserved this tumultuous and grand sendoff. No one else has received one of this magnitude with people from all walks of life, creed, race, belief, colour et cetera.

Your demise has brought about the true meaning of muhibbah and Malaysia Unplugged. You have unified the nation which we all love. Memories of you will be embedded in our minds in time immemorial. God bless you and your aide Michael Cornelius.

Shunyata: Such a great, great, great man you are, our dear Karpal Singh. You have set the finest example for the youths of our country to follow. The great love and respect that Malaysians of all races, creed and religion are showing at your departure is unprecedented.

It speaks a million words. Enjoy the fruits of your rewards in the beautiful heavens, our dear Karpal Singh! We all know that god is already taking good and loving care of your sweet, humble soul. This is a message sent with heartfelt love.

Pemerhati: Karpal exemplified the major difference between an honest opposition Pakatan politician and the many corrupt BN politicians. He, at the age of 74 and despite his major disability, was still travelling around at midnight to attend court cases and earn an honest living.

But it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to practice his profession as the courts and most of the judicial officers were under the almost complete control of the tyrannical and dictatorial Umno leadership, and thus the trials that were held against him were just ‘sandiwara’ trials where the kangaroo judges announced the verdicts that were handed to them by the Umno leadership.

The BN politicians in sharp contrast earn their living by giving themselves huge perks and more importantly through the massive theft of the people’s money through many crooked deals. They have retained power illegitimately through massively rigged and fraudulent elections.

Malaysian Patriot: How many current leaders qualify to receive such true respect and not fake ones? How many current leaders are as principled and not crooked?

Karpal slogged all the way up to the time of his death. If only he had succumbed to evil human possessions or desires, he would have had numerous titles before and after his name. We Malaysians are truly indebted to him forever.

505 Rakyat: You have towered above us all, you have fought the good fight, you have finished the race and you have kept the faith with humility and dignity. Your fight and courage leaves a legacy for us, and we will take up this fight and ensure justice for all including those who persecuted you for your righteousness.

You now sit on the table of the warriors in heaven. That is your rightful place you have earned through your courage and suffering in this world. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, theirs is the kingdom of heaven

The Reaper: Yesterday's proceedings was a tribute befitting a great man. The fight for justice will continue with us.

Every Vote Counts: Karpal Singh is forever immortalised as a true Malaysian patriot and hero. Let's all of us continue his fight for a better Malaysia. ABU (Anything But Umno).

Benedict Morais: A wise man says, do not be deceived by what a man says. Instead, watch what he does. In the case of the late YB Karpal Singh he actually meant what he said and likewise said what he meant. A rare quality from an authentic, true and inspiring leader and a legend in his time. Rest in peace.

Bystander: Karpal Singh is a legend that will live forever in the hearts of every right-minded Malaysian. I wonder how and what the sultan of Perak feels about the sedition charge thrown at the honourable Mr Karpal Singh.

' 505 Rakyat : Blessed are you Karpal who was persecuted because of righteousness, for yours is the kingdom of heaven. Farewell, brother.

FellowMalaysian: Karpal's legacy is synonymous to the struggles of the people in this country. In body he may have left us, but his spirit is still very much burning in every one of us who values the struggles toward the liberty of our country.

We bid farewell to a great Malaysian warrior, a fearless patriot.

Swipenter: We bid you farewell, Tiger, but you will always be with us in spirit and in mind. Long live Karpal Singh, our beloved crusader against authoritarianism, injustice, oppression, discrimination and corruption.

BN: Karpal sir, you are more alive now than before with that mortal body. You are more in all our hearts today.

You will always be remembered for generations to come. May you bless us all, is our humble prayer.
