YOURSAY ‘The best apology is for Nawawi to resign as the chairperson of KTM.’

Nawawi: Netizens made me see my mistake

SteveOh: If Langkawi MP Nawawi Ahmad is sincere, he should make up for the damage he has done by not only having his public confession published in all newspapers but have another advertisement to honour Karpal Singh in replacement of the one that insulted him.

This man is a victim of the political culture that breeds a mindset among its leaders and MPs pathetically lacking in propriety and principles. If Nawawi is sincere, he should have a railway coach or a railway line, or even a train station, named after Karpal Singh.

To err is human and to forgive divine but only when the repentance is genuine, like in the case of the remorseful and repentant wrongdoer who pledged to pay back up to four times the amount to those he had defrauded.

Otherwise, the apology as it sounds, rings hollow. You don't say the things Nawawi did when he thinks the late Karpal was a man of "principle, integrity and courage".

A New Malaysia: Nawawi, you mean to say it took the netizens' wrath to see the error of what you have done? You are supposedly an MP and head of KTM (Keretapi Tanah Melayu), and you can't think for yourself?

It's not what people say that makes it wrong, it’s the act itself.

Abasir: This thoughtless fellow can show his contrition by offering to resign from his position of chairman of KTMB. That would be most appropriate. Whether or not such an offer is accepted is secondary.

For2long: Indeed one cannot depend on the social network to teach us how to behave as a decent human being.

The virtues that you obviously lack, such as compassion, respect for the departed, gracious behaviour, etc, should have been learnt as part of your upbringing.

It’s apparent your parents did not do a good job in bringing you up.

Atilla: Imagine what would have happened if this was done by an opposition MP to a government minister. The police would have immediately reacted and arrested the MP.

A simple apology is not sufficient for the sin you have done to a great Malaysian patriot. If you are really sincere, you should go down on your knees and seek forgiveness from Karpal’s widow.

Anonymous_3e86: The apology came too late - the damage has been done to both you and Karpal's family. I believe that Nawawi is more interested in minimising the damage done to his image, rather than to Karpal's family.

Green Penang: At least this man has the decency to make a public apology, unlike Zulkifli Noordin, who just changed his statement.

MinahBulat: I say Nawawi’s apology is sincere enough and we should let the matter rest. He made no excuse and took full responsibility for his action.

JustAMalaysian: As I have said after his initial apology , I genuinely believe Nawawi was sincere and was truly remorseful. I also believe he will honour his word that he will personally apologise to the late Karpal Singh's family when the opportunity arrives.

He is a mere mortal who made a mistake and he is not a "malaikat". So the people should just forgive him and close this chapter. Do not chastise and condemn him just because he belongs to Umno.

To Nawawi, I give you my respect for being brave enough to own up to your mistake. May God bless you!

Imraz Ikhbal: This man received public damnation for his tasteless and unemphatic act, which he rightly deserved.

But for being a man who acknowledges his mistake, for having the courage to admit it openly and for having the humility to apologise, he deserves no less my respect and admiration.

Doc: Well, I got to admit it: it is indeed very rare for an Umno politician to admit in public that he made a grave mistake and ask for forgiveness in public.

The typical Umno politician scenario when he blabbers nonsense publicly (which is very common, taking into consideration nearly all Umno politicians have subnormal IQ), is to blame the public for interpreting their speech.

Cogito Ergo Sum: Nawawi, your behaviour is typical of you and most of your BN comrades. Your calculated move was to cause maximum hurt to a great statesman acknowledged by both sides of the political divide.

You probably did not even understand what Karpal stood for because you are simply not his equal, intellectually and politically.

You are a one-term MP and have the gall and naivete to take on an elder statesman who ranks along with Tunku Abdul Rahman and other founding fathers of this land. Shame on you and your party.

Versey: Nawawi said: "Perhaps because I am MP now, so people take more notice of my personal (Facebook) account, but I was not alert about it as it had never been a problem."

This shows that he is not fit to be a lawmaker. Any decent human being with proper upbringing, or being sensible and reasonable, would have known that what he did was most inappropriate, regardless of what differences he had with MP Karpal in the past.

He is not only no class, but simply uncivilised, uncouth and lacking in common sense. It is a waste of taxpayers' money to keep a lawmaker like him, who not only put his constituents to shame but has been detrimental to the well-being of the society as a whole.

Onyourtoes: I could sense a genuine remorse from you now, Nawawi. But as I have posted in another thread, it is no longer sufficient.

The best apology is for you to resign as the chairperson of KTM. You must bear some consequence for your stupidity. You are an elected MP, so I will let you keep your seat for now.
