YOURSAY ‘Umno was scared of Karpal when alive. Looks like it is still terrified.’

KL school not allowed as Karpal memorial venue

Lim chong leong: Umno has so low self-esteem, and is so lacking in self-confidence that it will see ghosts everywhere. They cannot let down their guard for fear that they will lose their next election, such that they must not even let a funeral procession or a memorial take place without seeing it as something political and something that will threaten their very existence.

And they will use and abuse all public facilities to frustrate the people, even more thereby losing even more of whatever public support that's left. Fear not the strength in others, but address your own weaknesses, I always say.

Mosquitobrain: The Education Ministry has directed the state Education Department. The school board has requested the headmaster to follow directive. Nothing much DAP can do except to organise the memorial service for Karpal Singh elsewhere.

Onyourtoes: A memorial service is now a political event? Yes, Karpal was a politician, but he is not with us anymore. So how did a service in memory of him become a political event? By the way, was that school hall built with government funding? I bet it was not.

Gen2indian: Can the director of the school confirm that no BN/Umno function had never been held in school premises? For a great man who dedicated his life fighting injustice, this is the least we can do for the late Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh. I am very sure almost any other venue will be denied permission, for one reason or another, all at the request of Tuan Umno.

Doc: Umno was scared of the Karpal when he was alive. Looks like it is still terrified of him, even in death.

I don't think the KL and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall is going to suffice for this event. Padang Medeka maybe? No need permission from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), police  or any of the other Umno crony agencies.

If the police want to show up to arrest people, let them come. After all, if anything, Karpal taught us Malaysians is to fight stubbornly for liberty and justice.

Ren Ai: This directive can only come from an Education Department devoid of common human feelings of empathy, sympathy, compassion and sensitivity. Shame on the department.

Yours and My Malaysia: A question: Can a friend or member of his family host this memorial instead of DAP? Wonder what their reason will be to reject this?

Memory lapse: Karpal is a highly respected human being. He is now physically absent in this earthly world. We should protect his image at all times for his good deeds. As such to avoid causing embarrassment and any kind of humiliation to his family, it would be better for us to organise events in his memory at places where the government will not have to reject.

Kit P: There have been many, many times schools have been used for BN’s political events. I have seen BN flags and BN logos all over schools during such events. Are they not political events? I suppose the Education Department suffers from selective blindness.

KMD_1371466233: The principal or the head of the school must be sacked first as the hall was built with people’s donations. The next time you organise a function to collect funds from the people, you will get spite from them.

Casey919: Let it be held any place, even a coffee shop will do. If there are 20,000 people lining up for the service, it will stretch from one end of Petaling Street to the Parliament. This will create history and a fantastic scene. So you guys don't just comment - attend the service.

John Goh T C: Yes, do it to coincide with US President Barack Obama’s visit to KL this weekend as the world’s media will here in KL. Let the world knows who Karpal is. It is okay  to do it in Selangor, but please choose a bigger space and with lots of parking space like a stadium.

My Opinion: Yes, have the memorial service in the streets It is the people's event. Remember, they must respect the dead of other faiths. Do it on the day Obama visits KL.

Mushiro: This rejection of the use of a private school hall for Karpal's memorial is a good publicity for the memorial. Now more people will be aware, sympathise and attend the memorial.

Shrek: Expected and anticipated, but no problem with BN and the gang, like always, the headmaster will approve their requests immediately.

Son of PJ: BN is always capable of bringing itself to a new lows. If there is only one thing I am allowed to ask from my God, I will wish to be allowed to see the demise of BN in my lifetime.

Zen: Just choose another venue to make it simpler. Why insist or beg something from your enemy?

Kangkung: I thought SRJK schools are under a school board and the building does not belong to Umno.

Mr KJ John: The Education Ministry is now political tool of manipulation. Karpal is a national figure.

Bamboo: Petty-minded BN regime. Envy? So many turned up for Karpal Singh's funeral at their own expense.

Statue of Liberty: The Tiger lives on in our thoughts. It creates nightmare for the Umno government.

Greenie: Our country is in a sad state of affairs. Umno and BN are going all out to repress and oppress the people of Malaysia. How can we fight back? How do we fight back?

Debater: Then why do we have schools and hospitals named after dead Umno politicians?

Survivor: One simple word, cruelty.
