Sarawak to discuss aid for MH17 victims' families

Sarawak is to discuss the form of aid to be given to the families of the victims of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 tragedy at a state cabinet meeting.

Chief Minister Adenan Satem ( left ) said the meeting would be held soon to discuss the form of the aid that he had stated in his Aidilfitri message.

"I will call a cabinet meeting soon to see what we can do for the families of the victims of the MH17 tragedy, especially those from Sarawak. I cannot give you the details now. We feel their loss," he told reporters at the Aidilfitri house held at the Borneo Convention Centre in Kuching.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri James Masing, who was at the event, said the people should also not forget the families of the victims of the MH370 tragedy.

"Let's also pray for the victims of MH370," said Masing, who is state land development minister.

Flight MH370 dropped off radar on March 8 as it flew from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 227 passengers and 12 crew on board. The Boeing 777 aircraft has yet to be found, even after an exhaustive search in the southern Indian Ocean where it is believed to have gone down after veering off course.

Flight MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17 as it was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 283 passengers and 15 crew on board. The Boeing 777 aircraft is believed to have been shot down over the troubled country.
