PAS man tells 'dictator' Anwar to retire

Gerard Lourdesamy: Should PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang retire over his love affair with Umno? Without PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, Pakatan Rakyat would not have got 52% of the popular vote.

Anwar is not perfect and all of us know it but at present there are no other viable, experienced or frankly shrewd leaders with the requisite political cunning and duplicity to helm Pakatan and lead the fight against the Umno-BN monster.

If Abdul Hadi had lead the GE12 or GE13 campaigns, Pakatan would not have made any inroads among the voters. Anwar is the face that is acceptable to non-Malay/Muslim voters.

PAS benefits because of its association with Pakatan. Otherwise it would be a fringe religious party dominant in Kelantan and maybe Terengganu and nowhere else.

After the fiasco in Kedah, Abdul Hadi and the ultra-conservatives in the Dewan Ulama and the PAS Youth wing have not learned their lessons. Go ahead and join Umno and see if your Islamic agenda will ever get implemented.

At least in the Pakatan, PAS gets its views heard and concerns addressed. But in BN, Umno will suppress it.

Proarte: Unless Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim is guilty of 'high crimes and misdemeanours' it would be undemocratic to engineer his removal. What are PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's credentials to make her a better candidate than Khalid for the MB's post?

She was a reluctant 'stand in' for Anwar when Umno scuppered his 'Kajang Move' by hastening his conviction for sodomy. Pakatan supporters have allowed Anwar to ride roughshod over it as though he was some kind of iconic saviour whom they could do without.

They are to blame for their lack of discernment and vigilance over Anwar's duplicity and skin deep commitment to racial and religious equality in Malaysia.

Anwar played on the rakyat's hopes and aspirations but signally failed to deliver on any of them because of his inability to rid himself of the Umno-inspired 'Ketuanan Melayu and Ketuanan Islam' mindset which informed his politics, despite the bogus rhetoric of 'Ketuanan Rakyat', 'Reformasi' and the 'Jeffersonian Focus'. Anwar has only been about himself and his ego.

Patriot1: Honestly, cronyism is breeding in PKR. Anwar has too much political baggage to be able to function if he is jailed. Why can't the opposition alliance grow a backbone rather than depend on him alone?

I voted for the opposition for a change but now I see familiar political in-fighting in PKR. A leopard will never change its spots. How he behaves is very dependent of the circumstances. Through the years, he was part of BN's crony system until his political career was cut short.

I've never agreed with the politics of PAS but at least they're consistent. I understand the political alliance was formed on the basis of a common goal to bring changes and also "agree to disagree on certain issues".

I am really really doubtful I should continue to vote for a dysfunctional opposition being riddled with infighting. Why can't the differences be sorted out with Khalid rather than turn the state into a political circus?

In terms of capability, I don't see anyone in PKR to be even near him.

Thana55: Anwar is still the man for the job. No one come close.

His stature, his sacrifice, his trials and tribulations fighting Umno's dirty tricks machinery, his appeal across all Malaysians, his global outlook makes him the best leader (both sides considered) Malaysians are eagerly waiting for his move to Putrajaya.

Jiminy Qrikert: “I am just reflecting others' opinions...,” so said PAS Research Centre operations director Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki of his central committee circle and his leaked WhatsApp message.

So, this means Zuhdi's extreme racist bigoted sentiments are a reflection of the true sentiments of the inner circle of PAS leadership.

If so, then PAS is just bidding their time until they are in power in either the richer states or in the central government before they embark on their true jihad - the discrimination against and persecution of non-Muslims.

CQ Muar: Like many who had mistakenly voted for PAS, my family and friends obviously did the same mistake against our instinct and fear.

Despite being skeptical about their loyalty and sincerity, we opted to vote in favour of PAS against BN purely to support the opposition during the last two GEs (12 and 13th).

Sadly, our instinct and skepticism were proven true. As a result, we're now paying the price for our mistakes. Opportunists like PAS in the guise of religion can never be trusted again.

As such, DAP and PKR should and must abandon PAS. Though somewhat risky, it is inevitable and worth it. In all probability, we could be surprised by greater support for the opposition (DAP, PKR and other moderate PAS) without PAS come GE14.

Malaccan: Zuhdi has no principles to so easily discard PAS' distrust of Umno to hold on to power. This is not counting the carrot offered to fellow central committee members which is to put non-Muslims in their place.

If he feels that he is victimised, then he should just release the rest of the Whasapp messages, so that the others may also get the same heat. After all, someone in the group released his choice comments.

There is no use pulling Anwar into this or blaming his supporters in PAS. His guilt is beyond doubt. PAS is caught in his sin. How will it atone and purge itself of these traitors?

Rick Teo: In one swift stroke, PAS has lost all credibility with the non-Malays. In the next election, PKR have to contest in all PAS seats and show that the Islamic party won because of non-Malays support. Let us see how they will fare this time.
