Umno and PAS - fruits of the same tree

YOURSAY ‘Politics has always been a choice between the lesser of two evils.’

PAS Youth wants party to probe WhatsApp-gate

Wg321: PAS central committee member Mohd Zuhdi Marzuki wanted to take advantage of the turmoil in PKR concerning MB Khalid Ibrahim.

He was thinking aloud and proposed to form a Malay unity government with Umno with the assistance of Khalid. He thought he can make use of Umno to form an Islamic state and the implementation of hudud starting with Kelantan.

At the same time, Umno is making use of PAS to split Pakatan Rakyat, while Khalid is allgedly making use of Umno to settle his RM66 million debt to Bank Islam (Remember PM Najib Razak’s ‘You help me, I help you’?). So everybody is using somebody.

In the process, Zuhdi has forgotten that Umno cannot be trusted. When Umno managed to split Pakatan, Umno will appoint their own man to be the Selangor MB.

Umno will also gives excuses that an Islamic state is not feasible because of unequal punishment for the same offence by Muslims and non-Muslims like what former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

In the process, PAS has to sacrifice their claim for 20% oil royalty for Kelantan from Umno.

Kim Quek: Positive and constructive move from Suhaizan Kaiat. It is heartening to hear from the PAS Youth leader his admission that:

a) the racist and chauvinistic thinking reflected in Zuhdi’s written notes is wrong and unacceptable, and the guilty must be punished,

b) he treasures the co-operation of Pakatan, and

c) defeating Umno remains Pakatan’s immediate prime objective.

The WhatsApp chat messages have indicated that considerable number of top PAS leaders are perhaps more attracted to Umno’s racist and corrupt politics than Pakatan’s struggles for social justice and democracy.

These are potential traitors who may jeopardise Pakatan’s journey to Putrajaya. They must be promptly and effectively dealt with, if PAS is serious in pursuing Pakatan’s common objective.

Daniel: Just like BN, Temerloh MP Nasruddin Hassan wants to shoot the whistleblower instead of tackling the issue.

No matter how you spin it, the final part of Zuhdi’s WhatsApp message is clear enough for most to make a judgement.

The GE, to me, has always been a choice between the lesser of two evils. While corruption and other BN excesses is evil, hudud and the now exposed PAS brand of ‘ketuanan’ could be worse.

Apology or not, I have made my decision - I would rather spoil my ballot instead of voting for BN or PAS. I believe many of my friends now think along the same line.

Malaccan: As a party, it is understandable for PAS to want to identify where the leak came from. The whistleblower had in fact done a great service for PAS and to the nation.

Remember the cover-ups of BN that has gone on for decades and for which Pakatan has railed and expressed outrage repeatedly on behalf of the nation? Let BN not be Pakatan's teacher in this.

Casey: Kudos Suhaizan! We'd be mindful that political parties are organisations of people. Hence, there are bound to be differences in the way political parties are recognised, and in how they operate.

In the case of a coalition of political parties like Pakatan; while there is commonality of objectives amongst its component political parties - PKR, PAS and DAP - there are often many differences, and some are significant.

Each of these political parties may have their own ideological core, and perhaps premised on very different ideologies.

But for now, the most important challenge to liberalism is to secure the country's future from Umno-BN's plutocracy; from a corrupt regime ruled and dominated by the self-serving rich and powerful.

Anonymous_3f4b: WhatsApp-gate is not the only issue confronting the tenuous and fragile Pakatan coalition. After this issue is settled, if at all, there is the spectre of hudud facing the opposition alliance. How are they going to resolve this?

What about the confiscation of the Malay bibles in Selangor which the ruling Pakatan state government cannot even find a common voice to nip the problem.

Instead we have PAS people supporting the ban on the use of the word ‘Allah’, the Malay bibles and building of churches, working hand in hand with the bigots of Perkasa and Isma.

Even if all issues are resolved superficially, the elements of mistrust, dishonesty and back-stabbing still prevail in Pakatan in their long quest for federal power. The people must and never be fooled again.

Siang Malam: Suhaizan Kaiat himself should ask his Kedah Youth chief about the comment that it was Allah's wrath on MAS over sexy kebayas and serving liquor in their flights which caused the tragedies of MH370 and MH17.

It's all the same in PAS. The party cannot be trusted anymore.

A Selangor: Zuhdi must resign. He has not apologised for the leaked message. Instead, the racist and bigot has chosen to blame the one who leaked the message and ask that Anwar Ibrahim resign.

SusahKes: "Suhaizan reminded all Pakatan leaders ‘not to lose focus’ on the real goal of the coalition, which is to change the government in Malaysia."

Well Suhaizan, pretty much all of us remain focused on that goal - except for your party president and party spiritual adviser.
