YOURSAY ‘Anyone can write to PM. Whether he replies is his prerogative.’

Umno denies Dr M sent '7 demands letter' to Najib

Aries46: Based on the ferocity and timing of the attack, it appears that Dr Mahathir Mohamad may be setting the tone for the forthcoming Umno assembly. And PM Najib Abdul Razak's weaknesses or the seven demands may not be the real reason.

On the surface though, Najib seem yet another of Mahathir's never-ending bungles in appointing his deputies and successors but these may just be perceptions.

In most instances these so-called bungles seem to have worked well for Mahathir's tendency to ride piggy-back and to operate from the back. Notwithstanding that Anwar Ibrahim was a total disaster.

The old terminator seldom divulges his real motives. Therefore Mahathir's most recent lashing out may have more to do with his succession planning to prop up his sagging legacy.

Wsoi: All the seven demands appear like Mahathir doing it for the public interest. My guess is he is seeking RM1.6 billion research and development grant for Proton.

After channelling the money to Proton, God knows where the money will go from there. Could be something like this, RM800 million given to Company ABC to come up with a prototype model in two years.

Just employ a few fresh graduates and do some drawings every day and there goes the RM800 million.

Real Truth: Apa lagi Mahathir mahu? Mahathir must understand that Najib has limitations, having been thrashed badly at elections and losing the two-thirds majority in Parliament.

Mahathir, times are different from when you were PM, you had absolute majority and could bulldoze anything through, even taking on the royalty and clipping their powers.

You had absolute control of everything, even the judiciary, to charge the former Lord President and your deputy, Anwar.

Things are different now. Najib, even though he controls the mainstream media, finds it impossible to control the Internet and its social media sites and with so many alternative media at the fingertips, gaining mass popularity is becoming a rarity.

Changing Najib is not the solution as there are very limited high-calibre personalities available. The Umno talent pool is shrinking. There is no more talent of your calibre, thanks to inbreeding and your educational policy.

Survivor: Mahathir's modus operandi is first to resign from Umno Baru. He then attacks Najib from outside while his men in Umno Baru will do further damage, like zombies spreading the disease to other members and the rest of the Umno Baru-supporting rakyat.

Once Najib lose more seats, he will have to resign. The question is how many more seats Najib or Umno Baru can afford to lose in the next general election.

Mahathir, by all means please go ahead with your plan. We’d love to see it happening.

Kangkung: Najib, you must never ignore old men, especially one that can spew such powerful venom. Don't ever forget or pretend to forget awarding lucrative Petronas contracts to his sons, grandsons and great-great grandchildren.

Man on the Street: If Mahathir is allowed to oust any PM of Malaysia as he wishes, then why have BN, Umno and general elections?

Mahathir is thinking of taking up the role of ‘God of Politics’ in this country. He should behave like former US presidents and learn from them.

You had all the opportunities during your reign but you have failed to create an ideal nation.

2Kali5: Anyone can write to the PM. Whether he replies is his prerogative.

Abasir: The unkindest cut of all? Abdullah Ahmad Badawi attended a dinner with US President Barack Obama but Mahathir wasn't invited.

That alone, in the books of the country's foremost constitutional Malay, is sufficient grounds for a public execution, ISIS-style. Now who says Najib is a spineless wimp?

Retnam: Mahathir's name could be on the list of invitees to Obama dinner. But the American secret service took off his name.

Fernz: Najib doesn't have to dignify Mahathir's attacks. There's nothing that Mahathir can do. Najib controls the purse strings. He also has the support of Abdullah and the Umno warlords.

Casey: Malaysia is a country blessed with rich natural resources, strategic location; and to top it all, it has a significantly large percentage of hardworking, entrepreneurial and productive populace.

But unfortunately, it suffers from bad government which traces its root to 22 years of Mahathir's regressive and repressive administration. When Mahathir stepped down, the people rejoiced; and handed Abdullah the best support ever garnered by a BN government.

But alas, Abdullah conveniently allowed son-in-law Khairy Jamaluddin and his cronies to hijack his reformist agenda.

Then came Najib, with all his baggages; indecisiveness; the inability to rein in his own wife, and the propensity towards pork-barrel or patronage politics, and allowing plutocrats and bigots to thrive.

As the way things stand, Mahathir of course, for all that he's worth, would be the least qualified of all advisers to reverse Najib's fast crumbling political fortune.

MingXiang: The Cecil Abraham statutory declaration (SD) disciplinary matter tomorrow and the Umno general assembly coming around the corner - what better timing than now for him to ‘gasak’ Najib.

Gentlemen, please leave your keris at the reception before you take your seats, thank you.
