MRT board rejects Azhar’s resignation pending probe

KINIBIZ The board of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has rejected chief executive officer Azhar Abdul Hamid’s resignation until the investigations into the recent accident, which cost three lives, are completed.

In a statement today, MRT Corp said its board decided not to consider Azhar’s resignation at this point on the back of his performance since assuming the post on Sept 1, 2011, which saw the Klang Valley MRT project progressing ahead of schedule at 50% completion at present.

Additionally the board also found the financial management of the project commendable, said MRT Corp, adding that the board has instructed Azhar to remain at the helm of the corporation and lead the investigation.

“The board will only deliberate on Azhar’s resignation once the investigation is completed and the findings of the investigation are made public,” said MRT Corp.

The investigation is expected to complete in September, said the statement.
