The difference - Hong Kong has ICAC, we don’t

YOURSAY ‘It’s clear the PDRM went berserk during Bersih 2.0 in 2012.’

Learn from 'tear gas-happy' PDRM, HK cops told

Vijay47: Let's see, here’s a possible reply from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM): “The number of canisters shot reflect the seriousness of the situation. PDRM had to take firm action to avoid the illegal Bersih rally changing into racial confrontation or violence.

“In Hong Kong, the entire police attack was only on Chinese protesters whereas in Malaysia, the police do not practice racial discrimination. We shot anti-demonstration chemicals at everybody who was marching on the streets. Race did not matter.”

Fair&Just: How to learn from Hong Kong? The cops there are law enforcers bound by real law-enforcing rules and orders, and they understand the rules and etiquette very well and abide by them.

HK universities are the top in Asia and renowned the world over, and so are its people.

The police here only know how to follow the orders of their corrupt and evil bosses and know not the full purposes of the rules, law and order in the country.

Kit P: Yes, it is clear the PDRM went berserk during Bersih 2.0 in 2012. Whether things went out of control or they acted directly on orders, we may never know.

Anonymous_40f4: Don’t forget the prison-grade barbed wires, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) barricades and personnel, Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) beating up journalists, the ramming of a police car into the crowd, helicopters flying threateningly low above, jamming of handphones, scores of arrests at the LRT and KTM stations, police firing tear gas even in the back lanes, chasing to catch and arrest protesters, and lies being told on the government-controlled TV and newspapers demonising the protesters.

Fair Play: Look at it this way. Hong Kong police don't have to use a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

ConstitutionIsSupreme: The only difference is not the police officer or the inspector-general of police (IGP) or the home minister or PM. Hong Kong has an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), but we don’t have one. Period.

Boonpou: That is because Hong Kong does not have the Sedition Act. It is also because Hong Kong, unlike Malaysia, has not been an "independent" country for more than half a century.

Malaysia achieved its independence and has been a "managed democracy" since 1957, one of the longest serving democratic countries in the world, and where there has not been a change in the ruling regime.

Negarawan: Yes, the PDRM wanted every Bersih rally participant to take home a gas canister as a souvenir and memento.

In 'Allah' row, court allows SIB's judicial review bid

Anak, Bangsa, Malaysia: Putrajaya played a game before the 13th general election (GE13) and Sabah and Sarawak fell into their trap.

Going forward, 'pisang tak akan berbuah dua kali' . Come GE14, Sabah and Sarawak won’t be Umno's fixed deposits but Pakatan's. Watch out.

Ourvotesdecide: We need to look at other aspects as well. Are Malaysians of other faiths, including Christians, treated equally/fairly in terms of land and financial allocations to build their places of worship in Sabah and Sarawak, their mission schools, etc?

There are very glaring inequalities and discrimination on all these in Sabah and Sarawak. So it’s time for a change.

Pahatian: When the term 'Allah' was first used, was it exclusive to any individual, sect, race or religion? When it was later used in the Holy Quran, was it specifically mentioned that it is exclusive to Muslims?

Why are the Muslim practices and understanding here different from the rest of the Muslim world?

Speaking Sense: So will there be action against those who went beyond their powers to seize the Bible in Sabah and Sarawak in the first place?

In any respectable democracy, the minister concerned would step up and take responsibility, and resign to protect his honour. Can we expect this in Bolehland? Now, for a fair hearing in the High Court.

Whatif: This case will never ever be concluded until the ban is lifted and the status quo restored. Until then, the cases and any new cases will be passed from one court to another and dragged on for eternity.

Righteous: Court decisions are based on power and politics. The Sarawak state election is fast approaching. Go figure, Sidang Injil Borneo (SIB).

Anonymous_1399248875: The best 'Merry-Go-Round' ever. Forget about Disneyland. Forget Legoland. Come to Bolehland.
