PSM, not in Pakatan might be for the best

YOURSAY ‘Just continue with your strong ideology and grassroots-based work’

PSM gives up on Pakatan, but stays in same game

Jerit: Why did Pakatan Rakyat make PSM wait for two years? What is the problem in admitting PSM into Pakatan? PSM has always been a strong ally to Pakatan and many friends of PSM are in Pakatan parties.

I guess that PSM's strong ideology and grassroots-based work and resolute stand against neo-liberal policies, do not go down well with Pakatan.

It’s okay, PSM. Do what is best for the people's struggle. After all, your persistent campaign has put many of the people's issues like minimum wage, housing rights, ‘bantah TPPA’, ‘bantah GST’ and many more issues on the national agenda.

You don’t have to be a beggar to Pakatan. And here’s a message to Pakatan - please treat those who support you with dignity.

Actually, Pakatan does not want to accept PSM because they are not willing to give PSM seats to contest even if it is only four.

Why must PSM join any Pakatan party? Are the Pakatan parties angels? There is an eviction in Kampung Chubadak, Sentul. Where is the Pakatan MP of Batu when the eviction taking place and what is he doing to fight for the rights of the people there?

Come on people, in the process of unseating BN, don’t be blind supporters. Why must PSM understand the predicament of Pakatan, and what is so special about Pakatan?

Don’t forget the Pakatan involvement in the Selangor MB saga, where Kidex and water deals were used to unseat Khalid Ibrahim as MB but now the new MB Azmin Ali is also supporting Kidex and the water deal.

If PSM is a mosquito party, why feel threatened by it?

Anonymous #90344484: Simple, what PSM secretary-general S Arutchelvan wants, are seats. He is no different from other politicians.

Motorcyclist: PSM would be one and only principled party in Pakatan, if they joined the opposition coalition.

Which means PAS would be uncomfortable, PKR belittled because they have the most dirt, and PSM will replace DAP which was once a socialist party, now turning into a capitalist party.

Those who find good in PSM, will leave their respective parties and join PSM. That is why Pakatan does not want PSM in.

AkuMelayu-tetapi ABU jugak: Arul, no need to play politics. In Pakatan as long as PAS is not agreeable, PSM cannot join Pakatan. DAP or PKR cannot do anything much about it.

Your argument is with PAS (more specifically with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and the ulama), not DAP or PKR. The issue of PSM joining Pakatan is a non-issue for GE14 (or even GE15).

Sad to say, social justice is not a major agenda in Malaysian politics, not for the next 20 to 30 years. Hopefully by then, the nation would have moved on. Even then, social justice will never be on main political agenda in Malaysia. That is the sad truth.

Arul, remember that Syed Husin Ali, a former president member of Parti Rakyat Malaysia, (Syed Husin is one of the greatest social justice campaigners in Malaysian history) has also joined PKR.

Not many can come close to him on social justice issues. The man went to Kamunting and incarcerated under Internal Security Act (ISA) for years. Yet he came out wiser and more determined that social justice must prevail in our country.

So put aside your own political ambitions and become one united force strong enough to kick Umno out of Putrajaya.

Powerstar: PSM’s move will be welcome by Pakatan because it is a thorn in their flesh.

Only the late Karpal Singh thought that Pakatan should allow PSM to join them because Karpal did not have a forked tongue.

Syed Husin became inactive in PKR because of backstabbing in the party. Pakatan doesn't need PSM to bring them down. The daily statements of DAP’s Lim Guan Eng, Hadi Awang and the rest, are enough to bring them down.

PSM is the only party where its councillors, state representatives and MPs declare their assets annually. They have been very consistent in fighting for the poor and fighting against BN.

I believe they should have been better treated in the last election. People like Dr Michael Jeyakumar, Mohd Nasir Hashim and Arul are way more principled then most of the candidates produced by Pakatan. They live a simple life and live with principles.

Pahatian: PSM, you are just a mosquito party. PSM didn't fare any better in the last election. You are trying to jump on the bandwagon just to get a few more seats.

Better disband and join any of the Pakatan parties instead of joining as a partner. With an extra party in Pakatan, more bickering and backstabbing will occur.

Odysseus: It's time for the Pakatan leadership take a serious look at its whole composition. It's time to expand beyond the three parties.

They will need to rope in parties like PSM and East Malaysian parties to maximise their reach to the voters.

Ng Kam Loon: BN is laughing all the way to the bank as this shows the opposition lacks patience and is only crazy for power. The main objective for right-thinking Malaysians is to oust this thieving regime.

Concerned1: PSM should change its logo. A fist looks too much like communist symbol. Sungai Siput MP Jeyakumar’s image is closer to a dove - why not use a dove holding a leaf, a universal symbol of peace?

Dr Michael is definitely a good guy, People in Sungai Siput will vouch for it. Hope PSM will take a practical approach. Since it cannot join Pakatan, it should focus its energy in his strong area. Hopefully, when PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is kicked out, things will change for better.

Vincy: PSM must get back to reality. Pakatan will never treat you as its comrade. It will only use you to get support from the rakyat, especially from the Indian community.

Anonymous #18267907: Why not admit PSM into Pakatan? Simple answer; in the current context, PAS cannot accept PSM's socialist views. PKR/DAP do not want to offend PAS, which is a dominant political player.

SSDhaliwal: PSM would be a better partner than PAS, Pakatan will learn the hard way as DAP did that PAS is not a team player and signing any pact with it is useless, as the only pact it believes and perceives is with their god, nothing else matters.

PSM is much more reliable and trustworthy - it’s better for Pakatan to accept it into its fold. Otherwise PSM will go on its own and only Umno benefits.

Ketuanan Rakyat: Forget about the third force. Work with Pakatan if you truly want to ensure BN is replaced in the next general election.
