Zahid, don't just blow hot air through newspapers

YOURSAY ‘Your statement, while welcome, means nothing unless you act.’

'Perkasa man wrong to rip Christmas banner'

Ksn: Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, is not what Perkasa had done a criminal offense? What do you intend to do about it to tame the extremists?

Can you and your government not assess from this occurrence that so many of Perkasa, Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma), and other extremists’ past statements show that they are out to create racial and religious problems among our people of various races and religions?

Is it not the responsibility of the government to silence such troublemakers? Are they not working towards Islamic terrorist intentions elsewhere? You know what happened in Pakistan and the massacre of all those innocent children? What are you waiting for?

Your statement, while welcome, means nothing unless you act resolutely and decisively to get rid of the extremists among us.

You are the home minister and you have more responsibility than others in the cabinet, next to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. There is no time to waste, Zahid.

Dont just talk : The Perkasa gangster has ripped the banner wishing people Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in front of the Perak DAP headquarters. What are you going to do about it, Home Affairs Minister Zahid?

In addition, this obnoxious thuggish Perkasa fellow even tried to pull Tebing Tinggi assemblyperson Ong Boon Piow by the arm. Is he part of another ‘50 Eminent Malays’ group defending the sanctity of the Muslim faith, and is thus above the law?

What respect are you talking about, Zahid? Because to the Perkasa wannabes, respect is a one-way street.

Onyourtoes : Zahid, as much as I doubt the sincerity of Umno now, your comment is a small step in the right direction.

I am not saying all those in Pakatan Rakyat are angels, but anyone with some intelligence and sense of justice in them would know who are the main culprits that caused our disharmony. Power is not without any cost.

Justice Denied : I do not understand the word “wrong” does it mean it is not an illegal act, hence the police will not be taking action as it a private matter between Perkasa and DAP? Wondering what’s with the mild response?

SRMan : Home Minister Zahid, thank you very much for telling us that the Perkasa man was wrong in tearing down a banner. Initially, we all thought that doing such a thing was alright until you enlightened us on the matter. We have indeed learned a thing or two about the law.

And since you have said that it was wrong, what actions do the authorities intend to take against the culprit?

SteveOh : Home Minster Zahid must take firm and decisive action against any groups out to create the sort of disturbances that successive governments have spoken out against.

There’s no point in moralising when the proper thing to do is get the police to act against the errant group. Otherwise, people will think that the government is scared of them and then they will be emboldened to do more wrongs.

Being consistent in your views is not good enough. The public expects the minister to be acting consistently against troublemakers. Actions speak louder than words.

The Mask : How come when someone called Umno “celaka”, he is charged, but no action is taken against the Perkasa man who called the Penang chief minister (and mind you it’s the chief minister, the head of state) a “holy pig”?

To all those who want the Sedition Act to remain, see what I mean? How dare you ask for the Act to be maintained and yet keep silent when it is used selectively?

Myrights : That's it? No sedition charge? Calling Umno “celaka” is seditious, but tearing down a Christmas banner is not seditious? The Sedition Act in Malaysia is surely only applicable to non-Muslims or anyone supporting the opposition at this point.

Bamboo : Hypocrite Zahid. It's the non-actions of the police under your watch that have emboldened these Perkasa thugs to do what they have done. Too late to sound like a statesperson whom you are not.

Fair&Just : Ha ha ha, bullying the weak (like the minorities) for decades is in their culture as all the firepower is with them. There has never before been a level playing field, and only cowards thrive in such a situation.

Kangkung : Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, we know, all of it was not seditious and they have no intention to create religious tensions.

Hplooi : So Zahid, no point sermonising. Just take action by arresting these felons. And use the full weight of the Penal Code, not the Sedition Act. These people should be treated as criminals (therefore Penal Code), not politicians (which is the Sedition Act).

Victor Johan : Home minister, you are the minister of internal affairs, with the police reporting to you. Don't just blow hot air through the newspapers. Go and arrest and charge this bloke who pulled down the DAP's seasonal greeting banner which was put up at their own premise.

What are you now waiting for?
